Excellent Sunday lunch
01 November 2017
from S Milton Devon
Constructed in 1822, The Priory near Bristol has always concerned itself with serving great traditional meals, since it was formerly a hotel. With a classic whitewashed exterior and large Victorian windows, The Priory boasts an enticing log-fire and an al fresco beer garden. It is furnished with rustic beams and an ornate mantelpiece, aiding its rural character.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Priory menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Priory ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Located in the country, but only a few miles from the sea, The Priory Portbury is a country haven, just 18 minutes’ driving into Bristol.

6 of us had the Sunday lunch - some said it was the best they'd had. We were impressed by the quantity and the quality and took up the offer of extra gray which was delicious.

Not good, 40 minutes wait for food at 5pm on a Sunday, Yorkshire pudding, very overcooked in fact not able to cut with knife. Undercooked roast carrots and cabbage. Very disappointing, a roast dinner is not difficult to prepare and cook.

My Wife & I have been to The Priory on a number of occasions and have never had a bad meal. Although the restaurant area is always busy the staff are always welcoming and efficient.
