Nice atmosphere, for a leisurely Sunday lunch. Yorkshire puddings could have been hotter, but otherwise everything fine, nicely presented, and generous portionsl. .

A beautiful Grade II listed building, The Plymouth Arms near Cardiff has great views from its beer garden over the surrounding countryside, and to the imperious St Fagan’s Castle. Offering traditional British pub cuisine, the pub’s ornate stone walls and window frames are sure to impress. Interiorly, there is a duality of contemporary and classic, with a brick hearth and chunky oak beams, but also sleek and colourful furniture.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Plymouth Arms menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Plymouth Arms ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

At just 12 minutes’ driving into central Cardiff, The Plymouth Arms is a stunning country pub but close to the city.

Food quality was good... fish and chips and the steak pie was yum however not great for kids. We were seated in an area that was too dark and although a kids activity menu was given, no pens were available. We were served really quickly by some very friendly staff however paying was a challenge as no staff could be seen for some time. All in all we were happy with our evening.

The serving staff were not clearing plates before bringing the next course. Nothwithstanding this the staff were very helpful in taking our order. The prawn and lobster starter was clearly made from frozen stock and the sauce bland.
