Restaurant description

With a history stretching back to 1590, The Plume of Feathers is a beautiful example of a lovingly preserved British inn with a modern menu. Relax in snug surroundings and indulge in sumptuous Italian recipes complemented with fine wines from across Europe.

The Plume of Feathers menu is perfect for sharing, with two to three plates per person letting diners experience a great selection of flavours. Start off with a rhubarb negroni, then sample the pig head ravioli with sage butter and balsamic vinegar, or arancini balls stuffed with beetroot and gorgonzola. Tastes of the local area are showcased with the Dorset charcuterie and cheeses, there are River Exe mussels with arrabbiata sauce, and baby pizzas with sumptuous toppings.

Classic Italian desserts at The Plume of Feathers in Dorset include tiramisu, limoncello cheesecake and gluten-free gelato. Over 30 Italian wines are served by the glass, and there are Italian beers served as well.

A charming fusion British and Italian dining, The Plume of Feathers is opposite the world-famous Sherborne Abbey, and a 5-minute walk from Sherborne Rail Station.

Great to be back in one of our favourite restaurants. Food was excellent, as always. Despite social distancing the restaurant was friendly and accommodating. This place never fails.

I went with my 29 year old son who immediately proclaimed it brilliant - a combination of his 2 favourite environments - pub and Italian food! I could not rate the experience more highly. We felt welcome from the start. I was driving so ordered the Nogroni to start - a Negroni without the gin which was surprisingly delicious! The service was top notch (even when one of our courses went to the table next to us!). Definitely recommend the meat balls. Loved the idea of Italian tapas which is what it is. We were seated in the front room so had a fantastic view of the Abbey. All in all we had a really good evening and are looking forward to returning

Very well presented tasty food from a fair sized menu, we have eaten here previously but this was our first time post Covid, the safety measures were effective but not too intrusive and the staff are well up to the challenge, all in all a very pleasant experience that we shall be repeating soon.

Lovely food as usual Except the cauliflower salad was way saltier then normal and for to mention it it must have been very salty as I am a salt fan...

Exceptional food as always - service variable depending on personnel on duty. The salted rosemary potatoes the Fregola and the venison ravioli are exceptional.
