With a history stretching back to 1590, The Plume of Feathers is a beautiful example of a lovingly preserved British inn with a modern menu. Relax in snug surroundings and indulge in sumptuous Italian recipes complemented with fine wines from across Europe.

The Plume of Feathers menu is perfect for sharing, with two to three plates per person letting diners experience a great selection of flavours. Start off with a rhubarb negroni, then sample the pig head ravioli with sage butter and balsamic vinegar, or arancini balls stuffed with beetroot and gorgonzola. Tastes of the local area are showcased with the Dorset charcuterie and cheeses, there are River Exe mussels with arrabbiata sauce, and baby pizzas with sumptuous toppings.

Classic Italian desserts at The Plume of Feathers in Dorset include tiramisu, limoncello cheesecake and gluten-free gelato. Over 30 Italian wines are served by the glass, and there are Italian beers served as well.

A charming fusion British and Italian dining, The Plume of Feathers is opposite the world-famous Sherborne Abbey, and a 5-minute walk from Sherborne Rail Station.

New experience, the ‘small plate’ idea, but loved having the freedom to choose. Worked out that one could eat a totally carb free meal with lots of veg and salad, but still leave feeling satisfied. Ok, not “cheap”, but we don’t mind as long as food is of good quality, which this definitely was. Friendly and efficient staff and relaxed atmosphere.

We had booked a table for 6. It was our first visit and we found the staff helpful, attentive but not in your face. We had a total of 14 dishes. They were delicious. We all had our favourites. Also there was a good selection of alcohol free drinks which makes a meal more special than just having a diet coke or similar. Personally the pea risotto was my dish of the night. Can't wait to return.

Loved it. Our second visit, every bit as good as our first

The way of choosing dishes was a new experience for us with Italian cuisine. Rather like Spanish tapas style where you choose various dishes from the whole menu to share. All the food was delicious and particularly well seasoned. Lovely old pub which has been very well and sympathetically updated.

Not sure the idea of Italian food being served in tapas form works. For example I had a beautifully cooked piece of cod with samphire and capers but without the potatoes which arrived after the fish had been enjoyed. Not a balanced meal, whole sole isn’t a suitable dish for tapas however well prepared it is, sad.

A perfect evening thank you. Restaurant was comfortable & clean. Service was friendly and helpful - willing AND happy to serve!
Food was delicious; Flavoursome, appetising, and cooked to perfection.
This is the second time I have been here, and the quality has not diminished! We have told 4 more people about the Plume and will be back. Oh and did I mention the wine & beer were excellent too. Long may this continue. Thank you.

Lovely food, good quality ingredients. Great service. The only criticism I have is that my husband”s main course arrived a lot quicker than mine which meant he had nearly finished his meal before mine arrived.
