Overseen by twin brothers Alex and Oliver Burnside, The Plough & Sail offers a modern British menu with eclectic world influences. This sensitively restored, country farmhouse-style hideaway features a spacious restaurant and cosy bar.

A tempting range of menus at The Plough & Sail feature dishes from local suppliers, while cellar is stocked full with world wines and ales from local breweries. Highlights include oysters with shallot vinegar, seasonal fish pie served with a local mixed leaf salad, and duck breast with fondant potato, braised red cabbage, plum tartlet & jus.

The tempting dessert menu features classic creme brulee with a ginger flapjack & poached apricots. In summer, the courtyard at the back is the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday.

I'd been to the plough and sail before but only at lunch times, this was an after Christmas meal out, although the restaurant was undergoing some renovation it still had a nice feel about the place, stafff were warm and friendly and looked after us well, and the food was excellent. A very nice evening indeed.

We arrived at the plough and sail and were greeted by friendly staff who couldn't do enough to seat us where we wanted to sit. The ambience of the building is very inviting and cosy.
The food was absolutely delicious and everyone in my party cleaned their plates. I had Mediterranean fish soup for a starter, it tasted really delicate but at the same time had lots of depth of flavour. I had the belly pork for my main, cooked absolutely perfectly.
My dad had lamb cutlets and was asked how he wanted them cooked. Everything was delicious.

I booked as a thank you treat for my brother. There were four of us and we all had different mains; pork belly, lamb cutlet, bream and herb crusted cod. We all thoroughly our mains and the portion sizes good. Puddings were equally delicious. My husband and sister-in-law both had sticky toffee pudding and both said it was one of the best they had eaten. My brother and I both had treacle tart which was really lovely. We have been here many times and would definitely recommend. The staff are really friendly too.

Excellent service and food delivered efficiently to our table. With it being a busy pre theatre service, we didn't feel rushed or hurried in any way. The restaurant and theatre experience together was first class!

We ate at the Plough & Sail prior to a concert at Snape Maltings recently. The food was good and the service friendly and efficient.

2 friends out for a catch up- Great starter- Tempura squid, Prawns & cod, Delicious, followed by crusted cod on a bed of crushed new potatoes & Samphire, and crème brulee to finish. I couldn't fault this meal at all. My friend had the same starter but she had Steak and the poached pear with rice pudding. Staff where great. what was really nice they didnt keep coming to the table to ask if everything was ok .

The food was very good. No problems with the size of the portions. Plenty of choice. Well attended to re service. Only one downside- the room was cold. There was a natural wood fire but unless you were next to it you were cold despite the temperature outside being around 12 degrees. How cold will the dining room be in the middle of Winter.
