With stunning riverside views and a large beer garden with a crackling fire pit for al fresco dining, The Plough – Fen Ditton is housed in a restored paper mill and coaching inn whose history dates back hundreds of years. With chunky wooden tables, plenty of armchairs & fireplaces, the pub is a rustic hideaway serving modern British cuisine.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Plough menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Plough – Fen Ditton cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Plough in Fen Ditton is a 12-minute drive from Cambridge Rail Station.

Good. Food was good, a little too much on the plate. Service was excellent- we were very well looked after.

It was very surprising to have waited soo long to be seated when the restaurant was practically empty at the time save for about 5 dining tables outside. There was a couple before who were very unhappy and told us they've been waiting for a long time. It didn't make a difference that we booked in advance. Despite the tables being empty for a while, these weren't promptly cleared. So we were shown a table that would've been be too cramped for 4 people dining, as everything else would require cleaningand the girl showing us wasn't keen. We insisted and chose one of the dirty tables. I asked the girl if we caught them at a time they're short staffed but she said no, they're OK and we're lucky we arrived at a not-so-busy time. The waiter was a bit abrupt, seemed struggling to place the orders on the tablet and didn't get it all right in the end. No lime or lemon due to allergy was noted as no fruits. Despite making it clear that kids meal to be served ASAP, we had our starters and nearly done with mains before our hungry kids got their pizzas. There was a mix up. Overall, pork belly with scallops wasn't worth it (pork was dry and chewy, broccoli overcooked, bacon burnt (to the waiter: "crispy" is not same as black, and thanks for replacing it), neither was the chocolate bomb, the "wagyu" burger was soggy with the sauce and the cheese was like those plastic cheese slice. Had to ask for cutlery a few times. Positives: good camembert and chutney, good ice-cream that saved the bland bomb, the desserts arrived much quicker than the other courses (and nearly same time as the kids'), great location on a sunny day near the Cam with accessible parking. The latter was the main reason why my injured husband chose this restaurant for his birthday dinner. To be honest we had such bad service the last time (though food was better) so I tried to dissuade him. I wish I was more insistent. After such experience, don't think we are coming back.

Had a really lovely time dining at the Plough we have dined here a few times in the past but our experience then wasn’t good??. That was over a couple of years ago, we went back last month for an occasion and was really great ??. So decided to book again as we had some friends over from abroad, and again very good dining experience the staff were fantastic very attentive and helpful ???? It was quite busy and still got there full attention when needed so thumbs up to the staff and the lovely food. Thank you

Have been visiting this restaurant annually to coincide with University May Bumps, Extra eating area created since our last visit and very busy but staff were able to cope. Excellent service, good food. A good children's menu was available for smaller appetites. Also my husband has mobility problems but was able to bring his scooter onto outside decking area which we much appreciated.

Food good service very good but tables were cramped too close together no room to move when other people tried to sit at the next table I sat with my back to patio doors and it was draughty

A very disappointing meal. We have eaten here on several occasions when visiting our son who lives in Cambridge. We ordered some "nibbles" to have in advance of our starters. The starters arrived first, and when we queried this with the waitress, she returned to the kitchen, and came back to us confirming that the nibbles would be served at the same time as the starters - so these all arrived together. As soon as these were cleared our main course arrived around 30 seconds later, when we really would have appreciated a breather. We then asked if we could have our coffees in the garden area, and were told they would bring us our coffees to our current table, and we could carry them outside ourselves. This is the first time I have ever written a review of a meal - the service was so poor that I have felt motivated to do so. The food itself was acceptable, but not as good as it been on previous occasions. The waiter / waitresses definitely did not care whether or not we enjoyed our meal - has there been a change of management? Will try another venue next time we visit the area - shame as such a pretty location.
