A rustic pub in the Berkshire countryside, The Packhorse was originally a 17th-century farm. Serving hearty pub favourites and a popular Sunday roast, the pub boasts a cosy interior with an open fire, and a large beer garden.

Enjoy classic British food at The Packhorse Mapledurham, with the likes of beer-battered haddock and chips, and rump steak with horseradish butter on the menu. Other favourites include guinea fowl with crushed garlic potatoes, roast leeks and apple juniper sauce, pan-fried pigeon breast with pickled wild mushrooms and a boozy sherry sauce, and the 8oz steak burger topped with grilled bacon and cheese.

At the heart of its community, The Packhorse pub is packed with rustic, original features. A true village pub, a range of ales is joined by an impressive range of wines on the drinks menu.

The Packhorse near Reading is a 15-minute drive from the town centre.

I visited here a couple of weeks ago with my son and was that impressed, I booked to go yesterday with my daughter. As my daughter is vegetarian, it can be difficult to find somewhere which does an exciting range of meat free choices. We had excellent service throughout, ate in the restaurant which was really pleasant and we're impressed by the cleanliness of the toilets. We will definitely be going back as it is a great place to take people who have specialist dietary requirements and is easy to get to for family visiting their student children in Reading.
