We decided to eat here as scallops were on the menu and we weren’t disappointed they were lovely and perfectly cooked. Rest of the meal was also good the best calzone I’ve ever had. The only downside was it took quite a while for our order to arrive but We will definitely be visiting there again

Lovely welcome, very nice decor and ambience - perfect for our family meet up. Some drinks/food unavailable, even though early on a Saturday evening but otherwise great!

We love this place and have been for many meals over the years. I find it a very cosy comfortable friendly place with a lovely ambience. We were however a little bit disappointed Saturday evening with our starters my husband ordered white bait and I myself had the squid. Well to say the portions were small is an understatement I had 4 very thin rings of squid my husband had about 8 white bait these were not brought out with dips or anything to accompany them. The main meals however were very good I had the beef cheek my husband the fish and chips the fish was very small but he said it was cooked very well. The service was excellent and not slow. Bottle of pinot grigio very reasonable. So apart from disappointing starters it was all very good

We would not recommend The Old Lion it was very tired the carpets were badly stained as were the tables which could have been covered with a plain white tablecloth. The lighting was very bright and not ambient at all. There were lots of large cobwebs!!! The menu was too large if they cut it down the saving could then be spent on presentation of the inn. Staff were lovely and very knowledgeable.

On entering the Old Lion we were greeted by a lovely lady who escorted us to our table and introduced our waiter for the evening. The waiter was very polite and professional. The menu was very varied and we changed our minds numerous times but settled on lamb koftas and home made scotch egg for starters, fillet steak and homemade chicken pie. The meal was delicious. After desert we settled in the bar and enjoyed a few guns from the large variety they offered. We would strongly recommend a visit to the old lion, friendly warm welcome with excellent food and service at a reasonable price. We will definitely be returning.

I don’t normally complain, but both food and service was well below par. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, I ordered the scallops, described as scallops with bacon and pea purée. This turned out to be 2 measly scallops, a squeeze of pea purée smaller than the pad on my little finger. With not even one full rasher of bacon of which totalled over £7 and I could eat in two mouthfuls. Another of my party had stale bread arrive with their soup. The drinks both soft and draught pints were flat and we had to chase them to be redone. Finally, the waiter didn’t know how to reprint a card receipt and had to wait 5 mins for everyone to have a try. Despite an inadequate dinner the waiter who served us was very polite and that should be a credit to him.
