Restaurant description

A welcoming village pub with traditional style and modern gastropub flavours, The Old Lion is an inviting spot for leisurely meals. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and there are crackling log fires to relax by with a glass of wine or cask ale.

The Old Lion menu is a modern example of British gastropub excellence, with classic dishes sitting alongside contemporary flavours. Artisan breaded brie with a red berry jelly is a great sharer to start off with, moving on to pub favourites like cod and chips or homemade pie of the day. There are rustic pizzas cooked in the stone oven, and succulent steaks and burgers from the grill menu too.

Enjoy generous Sunday roasts at The Old Lion in Rugby, featuring a choice of slow-cooked meats with all the trimmings. Local cask ales and ciders are served at the bar, as well as a concise wine list and extensive choice of international spirits.

A homely pub with modern updates and a gourmet menu, The Old Lion is a 9-minute drive from Rugby Rail Station.

Lovely restaurant but empty so not much atmosphere. Waiter was great. Quite a few flies though which was a bit unpleasant.

Comfortable and safe environment. Waiter/waitress with visor. Lots of car taken, not rushed, Attentive staff. Nice environment. Very nice food. Starters were Lamb kaftan and the scotch egg. Both beautifully prepared and very tasty. Main were the burger for both diners. Again very well prepared and very nice. Perfect quantities. A very nice experience

Hi, My husband and I visited the Old Lion last night for our wedding anniversary. We've always liked the pub and the food has always been lovely. Sadly, last night was a real disappointment. I'm not one to complain but I do feel that constructive feedback is essential. I completely understand that lockdown has been tough for all yet I also believe that the down time would have been prime for sprucing the place up and making it the best it can be to ensure its success. The decor and the furniture look very tired and our table was sticky and was not clean. Unfortunately the first bottle of wine was corked - these things happen, no problem at all. The menu wasn't particularly inspiring hence I only ordered scampi which I ordinarily never would but nothing else grabbed my attention. My husband ordered a halloumi salad of which he left most of it as the salad was limp and black as if it had been left in a salad bag in the fridge for days. There was little dressing and the mangetout was overcooked (not sure why it was cooked at all to be honest!) The chips with my scampi were cold and limp. The salad was also limp and disappointing with no dressing. We decided to not have dessert as there were flies bothering us from the moment we sat down. When I mentioned this, the reason given was because we were near farmland! Mmmm... in my experience it's usually due to an unclean environment. I don't wish to be rude, just constructive. I'm sad having to write this feedback but I equally believe that if you see it as a means to improve, you could get the pub back to the standards we all know and love. Please don't see this as a means of wanting any reimbursement, I don't. I just want you to succeed and me as a customer, have a better experience the next time I visit.

A Fantastic Visit, a warm Welcome as soon as We came in and were told how the Old Lion operates because of the virus. This was thoroughly thought out and the place was spotless. The Staff were very helpfulAnd lovely. The Menu was very varied, I had the best Ham, egg and chips I’ve ever had and had a small portion which was so nice not having a huge plate of food. My Husband had a really nice pie and My Son had Scampi which was thoroughly enjoyed. Our Hungarian Vizsla loved the place and Staff and relaxed and made Himself at home very quickly. We met Our Son here and I’m SO chuffed that I found The Old Lion and We will met there again.

Fabulous lunch. We had 3 courses and everything was great. Our first visit since Lockdown and the team have done a great job in putting safe systems in place. One way system, plenty of sanitiser everywhere, well sign posted and plenty of space between tables. Well done guys and thanks for a delicious lunch.

kitchen was running behind so there was a long wait for food. It was a boiling hot day and staff were rushed off their feet but there wasn't any acknowledgement from them whilst we were stood waiting to be seated. Food was excellent though.
