Tucked away in the leafy village of Otterbourne, The Old Forge is a rustic pub & restaurant housed in an old forge which, in the 18th century, served one of the country’s few female blacksmiths. With log fires warming it up, the pub serves a tasty menu of unfussy British food.
Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Old Forge menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.
A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Old Forge cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.
The Old Forge in Otterbourne is a 9-minute drive from Chandlers Ford Rail Station.

So having been to the Old Forge in September to celebrate my Dad’s 80th which was lovely Saturday was a bit of a disappointment. The food was lovely however it was clear that the restaurant was overbooked, we were a party of 4 and were put on a round table that was way too small so we asked to be moved, we had to wait half an hour for our table. The staff were rushed off their feet, clearly needed more staff on and there were no fish dishes on the menu as the kitchen had run out. I saw some other people I knew who were dining there and they had already mentioned the wait for a table, the restricted menu etc. So none of this was a surprise. Our meal was lovely however a bit of an anticlimax compared to last time. I would recommend but caveat with our recent experience so that friends aren’t disappointed. Moral of the story don’t overbook your restaurant you know how many covers you can deal with so when it is full then say no more.

Beautiful old tastefully decorated Old Forge. We opted for the mini roast which was very substantial and well presented. Friendly attentive staff and tasty food.

Unforurtunately our dining experience was not good. Our table wasn't ready, which is acceptable given the time if year. However there was only one man managing the bar he was busy doing coffee's so we waited quite awhile to be served. When seated at a table we were then told there would be gals an hour wait, that made it an hour from booking time! That is not acceptable, but we ordered and waited patiently. The pie was burnt round crust, the mash and cabbage was Luke warm. Yes on any other occasion I would have sent it back but after the wait we had experienced and I was entertaining a friend, I didn't. I did mention it to waitress who just apologised. I am now wondering if I will return again. I always complement On good food and service so feel justified in giving this negative feedback, it was money wasted.

Had not visited for a couple of years although I live in Otterbourne.. Very impressed with menu choices and I and my family all enjoyed an excellent lunch. We were served by Ethan and he is a credit to your staff team, very professional and ensured our every wish was catered for. Thank you to all the team
