A lovely lunch out with the family

Tucked away in the leafy village of Otterbourne, The Old Forge is a rustic pub & restaurant housed in an old forge which, in the 18th century, served one of the country’s few female blacksmiths. With log fires warming it up, the pub serves a tasty menu of unfussy British food.
Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Old Forge menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.
A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Old Forge cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.
The Old Forge in Otterbourne is a 9-minute drive from Chandlers Ford Rail Station.

A lovely lunch out with the family

Unforurtunately our dining experience was not good. Our table wasn't ready, which is acceptable given the time if year. However there was only one man managing the bar he was busy doing coffee's so we waited quite awhile to be served. When seated at a table we were then told there would be gals an hour wait, that made it an hour from booking time! That is not acceptable, but we ordered and waited patiently. The pie was burnt round crust, the mash and cabbage was Luke warm. Yes on any other occasion I would have sent it back but after the wait we had experienced and I was entertaining a friend, I didn't. I did mention it to waitress who just apologised. I am now wondering if I will return again. I always complement On good food and service so feel justified in giving this negative feedback, it was money wasted.

Had not visited for a couple of years although I live in Otterbourne.. Very impressed with menu choices and I and my family all enjoyed an excellent lunch. We were served by Ethan and he is a credit to your staff team, very professional and ensured our every wish was catered for. Thank you to all the team

The Forge is a charming place with lots of character. However for the 2nd time in recent months we have booked a table at 8:15 and not been able to be seated until around 8:45.
It is really irritating.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, no worries on that score.
Our starters were very nice, I had salt and pepper squid and others had the mushrooms and pate which was also very good.
Unfortunately the mains weren’t as good, I had the cod and chips which was quite soggy, not nice crisp batter and very soggy chips. Also I was convinced I didn’t have tartare sauce but just mayonnaise. If it was tartare sauce it was pretty tasteless. Other people had the crab and lobster fish cakes. This was disappointing to both my family members.
The mains do need improvement, hopefully that will be resolved.

Staff and service are excellent. Lobster and crab fishcakes were a huge disappointment - not even a hint of a taste of either a lobster or a crab in there. If I hadn't known better, I would have thought I was eating something potato based and vegetarian.

I am a big fan of The Old Forge in Otterbourne especially during the summer however, I visited on Sunday at 1500pm for a roast with my family. We arrived and the table wasn't ready for 20 minutes. I understand that it was busy but its unfair to make grandparents wait especially when we had pre booked. The waitress was working extremely hard however we were waiting for an awfully long time before she took our order. Our roasts came quickly and were such a good portion, unfortunately, they were cold and appeared to be the last of the roasts they obviously cooked in the morning. We had desert and coffee which was just brilliant.
This has not put me off coming again but I suggest to go elsewhere for a roast!! Disappointed.

Great menu with variety. Attractive decor, on trend and in keeping with building. Loved their 'softail drinks menu - beautifully presented and imaginative drinks.
Service was slow even though restaurant was quiet. Heating was broken which were not told about so we got very cold and ate with coat on, and later used rugs. Even let fire go out, but lit it again once asked. No apologies made.

Log fires give a warm and cheery atmosphere. Sharing plate mixed mezzo is excellent
