Tucked away in the leafy village of Otterbourne, The Old Forge is a rustic pub & restaurant housed in an old forge which, in the 18th century, served one of the country’s few female blacksmiths. With log fires warming it up, the pub serves a tasty menu of unfussy British food.

Sourcing ingredients from trusted local suppliers, The Old Forge menu features wholesome recipes based around the garden, land and sea. Sample hand-pressed burgers, beef & ale pie with cardamom carrots, or sea bass with potato gnocchi, while old-school puddings include warming crumbles, custard-lathered sponges and decadent brownies. Not forgetting younger diners, a kids’ menu includes miniature versions of British classics.

A partnership with the celebrated Rothschild wine merchants means The Old Forge cellar is stocked full with an eclectic list of world wines, while indulgent wine flights allow guests to sample a variety of bins. Seasonal beers and barrel-kept ales also feature, as well as thirst-quenching cocktails and rich coffees.

The Old Forge in Otterbourne is a 9-minute drive from Chandlers Ford Rail Station.

Atmosphere was very pleasant and staff were very nice and friendly, but the room was a bit smokey and hot

The bar area is comfortable and cosy. The restaurant area is ok but tables hemmed in to the wall not allowing you to access seat or food delivery.
The witness had a chip on her should, was cold, arrogant, rude and argumentative and spoiled our visit.

Olde Worlde pub/restaurant with good atmosphere. Good menu choice and good food presentation and quality. Nice garden area with sun umbrellas. Friendly staff.

A friend and I came for Sunday lunch yesterday and chose the beef and lamb roasts. For us the plates were far too full and much of the food was hidden under something else so it was hard to know where to start. A large leaf of kale(?) completely covered the Yorkshire pudding; the squash was buried under the cabbage and the cauliflower was dyed purple from the cabbage. Not much meat on the lamb rump and too much fat left on the beef so all a bit disappointing.

We started with baked Brie for my wife and duck pate for me. The Brie arrived in the middle of a plate on its own with one wilted lettuce leaf???? The main course was roast, pork for my wife, trio for me. They both arrived looking a complete mess! Piled in a great heap. The roast parsnips were solid, we couldn't get a fork into them, the cabbage mix was raw, I'm quite sure it had not seen boiling water, the red cabbage contained garlic, which I hate, no mention of this on the menu, the roast potatoes were underneath all this mess, so consequently were no longer crisp. No apple sauce for the pork, something that my wife was unable to find out immediately in the pile on her plate! Both meals were only just warm. The dessert was creme brûlée for my wife and crumble for me. Mine was fine the sugar on the brûlée had been caramelised so much so that it was black and very bitter to the taste. I'm not the sort of person to make a fuss and complain at the table, nor am I looking for reimbursement, your email came at a very opportunistic moment! We were both very disappointed, having dined at The Old Forge many times before and been delighted with our food. The occasion this time? My dear wife's birthday. That probably puts all this in perspective. To cap it all, we noticed 2 meals from different tables being returned to the kitchen for whatever reasons, just in the small room where we were seated! Also something else we found off putting, various unused glasses and side plates were removed from our table as we were eating!

Ambiance is good. The staff are friendly and helpful. Five of us ate and, overall, the food was good. However, I had cod and chips and although the cod was lovely, the minted peas were cold and the chips were overlooked and almost cold which was disappointing. I hasten to add that we have eaten here on other occasions and been entirely satisfied.

Food very good. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Atmosphere just right for a Sunday afternoon. One small hiccup - My wife and I had the three meat roast for our main course, but we didn't get our pots of crackling. We asked one of the waitresses for our crackling, and also some mustard but she never appeared again and we never saw her again! She was young, and maybe we thought she hadn't heard of crackling? Overall a lovely dining experience and we would definitely go back again.
