Really nice meal overall. The squid starter is particularly tasty and a good one to share. The lobster + crab fish cakes were delicious with plenty of fish and not dry.

Another lovely evening spent at the cottage. Booking the table was so easy online and the table was ready for us when we arrived early. Food was great again and we had a super friendly waitress who helped us get hroughout the night. Always a lovely night.

I'm afraid that our visit was disappointing. The service was unbelievably slow and to be honest we didn't feel as if anyone was really that interested. This is the first place I have eaten at where not a single member of staff asked us if we were happy with our food. The food was ok but very overpriced. The prices and descriptions indicated an intention to offer a cordon bleu type of experience but the food did not live up to this. The chicken & leek pie crust was so hard that my son couldn't eat it. The cod and chips was fine but was exactly that, fish and chips, and only a handful of chips at that with a small pile of rather dry crushed peas. Nothing about it warranted the £12.50 price. The same can be said for the fish cakes which were fine but nothing special to warrant the price (price would have been fine if anything had come with them other than a poor attempt at a pea veloute and a couple of pea shoots). All in all this was a very disappointing experience which left us still feeling hungry at the end. I requested the bill while we were finishing our desserts explaining that we were very pushed for time as I had to get my son somewhere. The bill still took approximately 10 minutes and I had gone up to the till , in frustration, before it appeared. The pub either needs to up its game and produce food which warrants the price (£8.50 for a fish finger sandwich in the sandwich section!) or go back to serving decent pub food at a decent price.

Excellent food venue service

The old cottage is a lovely venue. The interior is extremely cosy and a pleasant environment for a meal. The food as always was delicious. I am a particular fan of the chips here. We had starter, main and dessert. The Buttermilk chicken was wonderful. I would recommend this place to all my friends and I will certainly be returning!

The food was good but not great. The staff worked so hard to keep everyone fed and watered and not everyone appreciated how hard the 3 employees were working. They were subjected to complaints from customers lacking in patience. The staff stayed pleasant and polite throughout.
