A glorious traditional pub, based in Birmingham city centre just around the corner from Snow Hill train station, The Old Contemptibles is revered for its range of Cask Marque-approved ales, a vast array of gins, and traditional British pub food.
Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, The Old Contemptibles menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.
The Old Contemptibles bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.
There is a separate dining area which seats up to 24 guests, and can be hired for private events.

I had a fantastic lunch at The Old Contemptibles in Birmingham. This fantastic pub has not been modernised like many in Birmingham so it was full of character and warmth. I didn't know it was a 'sausage and chop' specialty house so our meals were made far more interesting and enjoyable by the specials on offer. Reasonably priced I cannot fault it for a city centre pub. Hiko the chef did a lovely meal and Nathan looked after us superbly. The staff were very friendly. Whilst the pub was not too busy at lunchtime, it was nice to be seated out of the main bar in a small area set off to the side so we could chat and take our time. There were eight in my party and every one of them said they would return again. Highly recommended.
