Housed in an 18th-century building and boasting a sprawling al fresco dining area, The Nags Head is a refurbished gastro pub serving modern British food with Mediterranean influence. Its cosy interiors, including open fires, distressed wood furniture and nostalgic artwork adorning the walls, makes it an idyllic country-style retreat.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Nags Head menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Nags Head bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The Nags Head in Essex is a 6-minute drive from Brentwood Rail Station.

We were at The Nags Head on Easter Sunday the 1st April. There were four of us as it is half way house to meet my daughter who lives in Kent. We have visited many times over the last 15 years. Three of us ordered roast dinners which were cold on arrival and had very few vegetables. Therefore we asked for more vegetables but a male waiter brought menus so we could pay for more vegetables. We felt that more should arrive without payment and a different waitress brought some hot roast potatoes and some hot gravy to heat up the meal. On collecting the plates the waiter said to me "You had enough vegetables then" as I had left some which Were unpalatable .These had been left as they were so cold. I found this very rude of him. The restaurant was noticeably quieter than in the past and we were genuinely disappointed with our meal.

Great friendly manager welcomed us, said table would be ready in ten, it was. Food was fine & so was service.
Only problem we both had to park over a 5 minute walk away, not good.

Had a lovely evening. Ordered a glass of white wine, (expected the usual vinegar) but it was lovely. Food was lovely and so was the service. Just didn't like the camera overhead watching, felt like an invasion of my privacy.

Excellent quality and choice in the menu. Traditional recipes turned into fantastic gourmet dishes. Will definitely come back. The service was a little rushed, but very pleasant all around.

Large family group for Sunday lunch which was a very busy time for the restaurant. But we were given excellent attentive service and food was of a very good quality and tasty. Had a very enjoyable time and we will use this venue again when we next meet up.
