Housed in an 18th-century building and boasting a sprawling al fresco dining area, The Nags Head is a refurbished gastro pub serving modern British food with Mediterranean influence. Its cosy interiors, including open fires, distressed wood furniture and nostalgic artwork adorning the walls, makes it an idyllic country-style retreat.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Nags Head menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Nags Head bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
The Nags Head in Essex is a 6-minute drive from Brentwood Rail Station.

Great friendly manager welcomed us, said table would be ready in ten, it was. Food was fine & so was service.
Only problem we both had to park over a 5 minute walk away, not good.

Had a lovely evening. Ordered a glass of white wine, (expected the usual vinegar) but it was lovely. Food was lovely and so was the service. Just didn't like the camera overhead watching, felt like an invasion of my privacy.

Excellent quality and choice in the menu. Traditional recipes turned into fantastic gourmet dishes. Will definitely come back. The service was a little rushed, but very pleasant all around.

Large family group for Sunday lunch which was a very busy time for the restaurant. But we were given excellent attentive service and food was of a very good quality and tasty. Had a very enjoyable time and we will use this venue again when we next meet up.

I arrived on time to find a young lady on the floor running around like mad - and a lady behind the bar ignoring guests and what looked like making hard work or pulling through an ale line .... both in different dress to the team so I am assuming we're management.... we waited 15 minutes to be seated and and the lady that seated me spoilt my drink on the table and then brushed it off the menu on to the table and walked off leaving my table wet...? I went to the bar and asked if I could have a cloth and was asked quite rudely by a waitress why....? I explained myself and she came over and wiped the spilliage across the table onto my chair and walked off - at this point I gave up..... we then waited another 20 minutes to for our order to be taken and then had our order taken out of order as the table next to us sat 10 minutes or so after we did .... we order starters which were great and the main arrived before our plates were cleared ....? Mains very nice also...!! We didn't order deserts as service was rather slow ... we paid and we left ... the overall experience was ok, but only driven by great food - advice really let the business down along with lack of interaction with us as guests ... we didn't feel like we were important to the business ...
