What a disappointment...too noisy, too sweet and basicaly not very tasty!
First, the Montagu is a the restaurant/ lobby of the Hyatt Regency. Unfortunatelly when we arrived, a big and noisy party was still there...not for long, at least!
But our table was in the lobby/ corridor...a bit weird, but at least we could hear the pianist (good one for ambiance, even if she was playing on 9 fingers...not a joke!)
The chocolate high tea is definetly too sweet...starting by a timbale of salmon served under a glass bell, a bit fancy for not a big gain...then the savoury part was laking of finess, a soggy choux pastry with a tasteless filling, a venison paté with chocolate, topped by raspberry coulis...only chocolate and sugar was dominating.
Ok for the little burger, and the coronation sandwich...but no woahh factor! Then the sweet part, butter cream and cup heavy, a tea cake flavourless...only the chocolate mousse was ok! Pity cause the only good thing was the macaron...a bit sharp at last!
And then came the home made scones...failed! so unraised! dense and not even propelly cooked!
It was the 1st and last time there!

Service was good, disappointed at the afternoon tea food, the cakes and sandwiches seemed very dry and not that fresh and when the scones arrived they definitely were not baked that day as were rock hard. We did not complain at the time as it was a birthday celebration and would have spoilt it. however the lady that served us was very friendly and efficient.

Cannot say a bad word about our experience! All the staff were absolutely lovely and the food was fantastic. Topped off by the pianist playing in the background and the beautiful decor and flowers, it couldn't have been better!

It was great, the staff went above and beyond to cater for my gluten intolerance, even providing a gluten-free dessert that was super chocolatey as requested!

I would definitely go again. Great value for money :D
