Restaurant description

Housed in a Victorian mill with a rustic feel and quintessentially British decor, Rode Mill brings you classic pub favourites in a uniquely picturesque location. Enjoy al fresco dining in the beautiful outdoor area by the River Frome, sampling one of the restaurant’s many ales.

The Mill Bar & Restaurant’s relaxing atmosphere is heightened by its riverside location, making it the ideal option for a social occasion or serene break from everyday life. Enjoy dishes such as duck fillet with wilted spinach and confit of carrots or home smoked salmon fillet with red pepper cream and salted cucumber ratatouille. The vegetarian and vegan menu provides offerings such as sharing mezze and crisp, stuffed courgette flowers with butternut squash, and the children’s menu welcomes even the smallest guests.

Sample The Mill’s extensive list of ales, and enjoy some quiet time in the restaurant’s country-inspired indoor area or green outdoor patio. The tartan armchairs and sturdy, rustic wooden tables create a home-away-from-home feeling.

Although the pub was quiet, we were made very welcome by the Landlord and a log burner kept us warm. I had a curry and my wife had a burger. A very nice dinner and just had room for a pudding.

Poor service and below average food. We had to go to the bar to order our own drinks as the table service was so poor. Understaffed. Partner ordered a gluten free burger, it came in bread instead of a roll! We thought it was a joke, if you can’t be bothered to even source a gluten free roll, don’t offer a gluten free option. The rest of the dishes were below average

Service was fantastic as usual, but our roast was not good this time, you advertised the beef as slow cooked overnight and it definitely wasn’t, the parsnips and veg was only luke warm but potatoes were nice and hot . Disappointed as was lovely each time before

We had a fabulous lunch here. The portions were generous, the preparation and presentation beautiful and the food was delicious. The roast lamb in particular was exceptional. Service was friendly and attentive, atmosphere warm with the burner going and overall we loved it and will be back.

Warm and friendly. Welcoming and looked after us extremely well despite catering for a large social function at the same time. Courteous. Highly recommended.

It was so cold that the whole experience was spoilt as we had to eat with our coats on - the radiator next to our table was stone cold ! Only had a log burner as source of heat and dog basket had priority in front of it. I know it is 'dog friendly' pub but one of my guests did not appreciate the small dog jumping up at her leg whilst she was dining as it was allowed to wander around the eating area ! Food was average for the cost but service by young lady waitress very good. Got the feeling that the diners came second in list of priorities . Superb location but noticed that wooden decking is starting to rot by entrance and since I last visited the Mill 5 years ago, it had an 'air' of neglect as some of the wooden tables were scratched as well. Reflected in the fact that despite being Xmas , there were not many diners - unlike local pubs/restaurants that I have visited ! What a shame as this pub could be fabulous and has so much potential but I am afraid that I would not be in a hurry to return.
