Restaurant description
Set in Alderly Edge, the quaint village associated with the legendary wizard after whom this pub is named, The Merlin serves a fusion of modern British and European cuisine in a cosy, traditional country pub setting. With a chandelier made entirely out of wine glasses, pony-skin-covered seats and numerous fireplaces warming it up, this pub is a homey retreat. It also enjoys a large patio for outdoor dining in warm weather.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Merlin menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Merlin bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
The Merlin in Cheshire is just a 5-minute drive from Wilmslow Rail Station.

Really poor service, disappointing menu and food, and freezing cold. Wouldn’t go back

We had a beautiful meal, booked a table for 11 easily online. Loved the interior, very tastefully decorated. Food was beautiful. I had a roast chicken dinner which was delicious and I was brought extra gravy too. I had initially asked for the nut toast but unfortunately they had run out of it. We were all very happy with our meals and the whole experience. The staff were all extremely friendly and attentive and were always checking on us to see if we needed anything. We were just disappointed it was so quiet at 6pm on a Sunday, can't understand why when it's such a beautiful place. Couldn't fault it.

Slow service but food was ok. I think the fact it was New Years Day meant it was not up to usual standard. Quantity over quality. Starter of duck pate and desert of creme broullet were good but let down by main of roast beef.

Very enjoyable evening - we ate relatively early at 7:30 so first 40 mins irritation by hyper children from a family party, but a parental rather than restaurant issue. A tad too child friendly! Food good, and service excellent.
