I was frustrated as I was only able to book for 6 online and wanted a table for 7. However when I called they were v helpful and said they'd add a setting to the table. This didn't happen. The bar service was poor, they got orders wrong more than once. Food was good but took a v long time to arrive.

The space and ambience are nice. The service was good on our visit, but the food was awful! We were four people and we all ordered fish and chips. Having eaten a few times in the pub before we were surprised at the measly portions - cold, tasteless hake sitting on top of a handful of soggy chips with freezing cold peas and an overly creamy tartar sauce. Ugh!

Looked on Trip Advisor to find a reliable gastropub near Russell Square for good food and good ambience. I had asked for a quiet table far from the door entrance as I was meeting some friends from New Zealand I had not seen in years and wanted a place far from the bustle for a nice long chat. The ambience was lively but I liked that they got me a table in a nice corner on the top floor. There was a good selection of mains which were nicely cooked and came in good portions. Staff were both professional and very friendly. In short the Cornwallis is a place I would go back to and would not hesitate to bring friends to.

Perfect pub experience for our first night in London. I chose it because I wanted the Yorkshire ham, stout smoked salmon, and British cheeses, and it did not disappoint. Service was great--fast without being rushed and friendly.Amazingly wonderful desserts--sticky toffee pudding and profiteroles with caramel ice cream and sauce.

We booked for lunch after a visit to the British Museum, therefore location very handy. Enjoyed very nice food and staff friendly and attentive. If I had a negative comment it would be that we had a two year old with us, there were obviously no high chairs or specific facilities for baby changing, no provision for children on the menu, so families not a target market. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable experience and would certainly go again.
