Worried by some comments on line we wondered what we would find! We were very happy and pleasantly surprised -excellent all round and will definitely be going back

The restaurant was very accommodating - we arrived a little earlier than anticipated for lunch with an additional diner and decided to relocate to the garden area as it was a fine day. Two guests had steak with some excellent chunky chips; one had quiche of the day and I had a tasty smoked duck salad. We shared some pleasant light deserts. The ambience was very chilled and relaxed and all staff were both friendly and efficient. Facilities were good, fresh and accessible. Views across Alkham Valley are lovely. A very pleasant experience and I’d definitely go again - might even consider an overnight stay.

Sunday lunch with friends. Service friendly and professional. Food of a very high standard and generous portions. Good wine list and interesting ciders. Definitely a better quality of Sunday lunch menu with good choices.

The restaurant is living on past glories. It is not as good as it used to be - we have been a few times in the past. When we arrived we had to ask for our coats to be taken. We sat in the lounge before lunch but we had to go and ask for drinks and I had to ask for the music to be turned down because it was too loud an inappropriate. In the restaurant during lunch the service was ok and the food was good but the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked and my wife bit on some Star Annaise in the red cabbage which tasted horrible. The chocolate marquise pudding was delicious but the base was so hard it was very difficult to eat.

The food was simply delicious. The scallops, sea bream, lamb and pork were snaffled up by our party!

The restaurant has been tastefully refurbished and from the moment we stepped inside we were met by friendly staff. The food was quite nice but the portions were quite small and the soup though lovely could have been hotter. The star of the show was the desert of chocolate and dark cherries which was yummy.
