Headed by Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw, The Mariners Public House is a contemporary pub and restaurant overlooking the Camel Estuary. Fantastic local produce is served, with live music events also featuring.

The Mariners Public House menu is packed with freshly caught seafood – there are Cornish mussels cooked in Wolf Rock IPA, Porthilly oysters with shallot vinegar, and potted Cornish crab served with Doom Bar bread. Steaks at The Mariners come exclusively from South West Farms, aged on the bone for 28-32 days.

There is also a popular Sunday lunch menu at The Mariners Public House Rock, including free range roast pork, vegetarian options like rosemary gnocchi, and desserts like Cornwall strawberries with vanilla set cream. As well as beers from Sharpe's Brewery, there are over 20 bottled varieties from around the world.

Showcasing the very best in Cornish produce, The Mariners Public House is a 35-minute drive from Roche Rail Station.

Unfortunately the dining experience was not a positive one. We had to wait an inordinate amount of time for the food to arrive. The starters were fine but the main course - a Sunday roast - was wholly inadequate given the premium price charged. One piece of meat per person, and reheated (from frozen?) roast potatoes. The accompanying vegetables were fine, but the portion originally provided was inadequate for four people. A second bowl of veggies was subsequently provided. In fairness, our complaints were expertly handled by the duty manager - who offered to scrub the entire bill including our drinks. We left the pub very disappointed with the dining experience but satisfied that the management attempted to resolve the issue as best they could.

Sunday lunch as good as you can cook at home, good portions and great ingredients. The staff are very welcoming and not at all condescending as you can get in some good restaurants. The breaded hake was delicious too and the rice pudding was amazing. I’m running out of superlatives about this place.

Great setting. Table overlooking estuary. Pleasant friendly service. Excellent food. Could do with slightly more choice of meat dishes.

We opted for the Rib of beef and was a perfect choice for our Sunday lunch. The vegetables were well cooked and not over-cooked and our waitress was lovely and would definitely employ her if i had a restaurant.

We enjoyed the food, it was well cooked and nicely presented plus tasty. It was mid range cost. The staff were all lovely. We had a charming French boy served us assisted by I think it was Kate. We are unlikely to return because the restaurant was very noisy. The sound from the bar permeated up the stairs, there were no soft furnishing to deaden the noise ( I know that is a fashion but it was not for us) We also had noisy children behind us, it made it into a clattery bistro experience of casual dining. . We like children we'd just hoped for a more restful atmosphere. Possibly a great lunch venue when the sun shines and children are at school.
