Restaurant description

Inside a breathtaking 5-star hotel overlooking the River Thames, The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards is a unique setting to indulge in a luxurious take on the quintessential British tradition of afternoon tea, with an al fresco terrace also on offer for when the weather allows.

Every aspect of the Lounge at the Royal Horseguards afternoon tea menu has been carefully crafted to offer the finest example of traditional British luxury. For starters, there is a unique signature loose leaf tea of strawberries and cream which perfectly complements the moist scones with indulgent clotted cream and jams. Beautifully presented finger sandwiches come with classic fillings such as smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber, and there are also other contemporary savoury bites too.

Inventive sweet surprises are also served at The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards Westminster, such as marmalade jammy dodger, gooseberry inside-out Victoria sponge, and Pimms almondine. As well as the signature tea, there are other exotic blends like organic Monteviot Darjeeling, Oolong Fleur D'Orient, and Persian Pomegranate. Diners can also choose to add glasses of premium champagnes to their meals.

Housed in one of London's most iconic areas, and with wonderfully elegant touches throughout, The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards London sits 3 minutes' walk from Embankment Tube Station.

A very enjoyable afternoon tea with a friend. You can either have the full works or, as we did, have just a cream tea with cakes which was more than enough to fill us up. Service was good, with the lady in charge moving us to a nice window table when it became free. We had to ask for more cream and jam, but this was quickly forthcoming and I suppose the only slightly disappointing thing was that at no point was I offered a fresh pot of tea, or even some hot water. I am sure if I had asked, this would have been provided. We were seated in the lounge, not the restaurant, which is what we wanted.

When arriving, we were greeted and shown to our table -which was in a quiet area of the hotel, and was ideal for quiet conversation and a chance to discuss the formal parade. The selection of sandwiches and teas were a delight, and the service from the waitresses was attentive and very welcoming. The selection of cakes and pastries were varied and led to the time passing slowly - so that we enjoyed every minute of our Afternoon Tea. I will definitely be using this hotel again for its pleasant ambiance and service.

We were shown to a table promptly to an area that only had one other couple there. The section soon filled up and for some reason we were served last with our tea. The service part from this was very good and staff checked whether we needed any thing. The food was very good, a good selection of sandwiches enjoyed the different breads. Scones were fresh and we were given extra jam and cream on request. The cake selection was very good. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
