First time visit to afternoon tea for my husband. My daughters and I have been here before. I believe that this time around there had been improvements. The first visit was good - this visit was excellent. Husband very impressed

Inside a breathtaking 5-star hotel overlooking the River Thames, The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards is a unique setting to indulge in a luxurious take on the quintessential British tradition of afternoon tea, with an al fresco terrace also on offer for when the weather allows.

Every aspect of the Lounge at the Royal Horseguards afternoon tea menu has been carefully crafted to offer the finest example of traditional British luxury. For starters, there is a unique signature loose leaf tea of strawberries and cream which perfectly complements the moist scones with indulgent clotted cream and jams. Beautifully presented finger sandwiches come with classic fillings such as smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber, and there are also other contemporary savoury bites too.

Inventive sweet surprises are also served at The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards Westminster, such as marmalade jammy dodger, gooseberry inside-out Victoria sponge, and Pimms almondine. As well as the signature tea, there are other exotic blends like organic Monteviot Darjeeling, Oolong Fleur D'Orient, and Persian Pomegranate. Diners can also choose to add glasses of premium champagnes to their meals.

Housed in one of London's most iconic areas, and with wonderfully elegant touches throughout, The Lounge at the Royal Horseguards London sits 3 minutes' walk from Embankment Tube Station.

We enjoyed our afternoon tea very much, but there seemed to be a lot of confusion from our waitress over my allergy information. Even though she had the details in the booking details, which she showed me on a print out of all their booking for the day, it took four separate conversations for her to understand what I wanted and what was okay for me to have. I would normally expect a much smoother service from this class of restaurant.

Our party went for the "Celebrate sparkling Royal Wedding afternoon tea" special. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival we each received a glass of champagne. Each person received five sandwiches. The pastries were decorated to theme (acknowledging the Trans-Atlantic Royal union). We were offered additional sandwiches and scones. The China the food was served on was as good as other, more expensive establishments. Good value for money.

We had afternoon tea. It was exactly what you would expect. I think it is a novel idea and would best suit foreign visitors looking looking for quintessential English tradition. Service was friendly and attentive without any stuffiness whatsoever.

Really disappointed by the gluten free afternoon tea... the finger sandwich weren’t fingers but just half slices of poor quality gluten free bread so the plate was composed of a total of 5 full slices of bread, the sight was completely unappealing.
Really disappointed by the scones as well as the poor quality jam and cream.
To add to the poor impression, we’ve been asked twice if we were “groupon” in order to check if we should be given a free cup of champagne or not... this really made us feel we were overpaying in view of the quality we got.
The atmosphere of the place is really nice so a shame the quality has dropped.

One of the worst afternoon teas I have had. Supposed to be rated one of the best gluten free in London, but the bread was cheap and the same, limited sandwich filling. The “fruit” scones were rolled in maybe three sultanas each and the cakes were poor and factory tasting. I very much doubt there is a chef on site.
I will never revisit and do not recommend.
Very cheaply produced, but cost £150 for 3. Do not waste your money
Additionally the 3 flutes of champagne were all served in different sized and shaped glasses. Bizarre and reminiscent of a village hall experience
