Restaurant description

An historic 17th-century pub, The Lime Kiln Inn is a rustic, cosy nook to enjoy celebrated rural British hospitality. The interior is full of original features like exposed wooden beams, while outside is a tranquil seating area to enjoy drinks in the sun and admire the greenery covering the front of the pub.

The Lime Kiln Inn menu showcases a tremendous selection of traditional British recipes made with gourmet seasonal ingredients. True tastes of the countryside can be found with dishes like deerstalker pie, filled with braised venison in a red wine sauce, topped with cheesy mash, while woodland pork tenderloin is served with a wild mushroom and brandy sauce. Fish dishes include the classic beer battered fish and chips, there are vegetarian dishes like asparagus tortellini pasta, and a popular selection of grill delicacies like succulent steaks and burgers.

On Sundays at The Lime Kiln Inn in Somerset, there are popular roast dinners served with all the trimmings. Up at the bar, cask ales are on tap, as well as fine wines from around the world. Kids get their own special menus, and several of the dishes on the main menu can be made gluten-free on request.

Pairing classic rural tradition with modern dining versatility, The Lime Kiln Inn is a 9-minute drive from central Somerton.

Recently refurbished restaurant area which gives it a much better feel. The prices have gone up a little but the meals are still value for money as the quality has also improved. The portion sizes are about right. The beef rib and trout dishes were the favourite in our group but all the dishes were very good as where the desserts. We will certainly be going back with friends and family when they come to stay.

Love the recently refurbished dining area, such an improvement it compliments the food. We eaten here twice in the last few weeks and will be back again. Food great, very friendly staff and good prices.

The Lime Kiln is vey local for us and staff and menus were always very good and varied, especially for vegetarians. However it is now a full Butcombe pub menu and very bad for vegetarians, no pie options, no burger option and just one salad option! Staff luckily are still very nice.

We were recommended this restaurant by our local airbnb host, and it turned out to be a good one. I stuck to the battered fish and chips, and my companion went for the bavette steak, medium rare. Both came with a generous portion of proper chips, which went down well. Both mains were good value, but I had to bring the cost of the "sharing cheese board" to the attention of the waitress. At £8.25 for a diminutive portion each of blue, Brie and a hard cheese, with ultra-thin crackers and a few grapes, this was seriously over-priced. I would be interested to see if my feedback has any impact. Plenty of parking, and despite our eating outside on a pleasant patio area, no significant traffic noise from the nearby road. The interior mixes traditional and modern, with dark beams and decor combined with 50s-diner style, light green ribbed bench seating. Staff were informative and attentive, without being overbearing. Overall, a nice find.

The waiting staff were lovely and even allowed us to move our table because it was too noisy for my 90 year old father. Unfortunately there were not enough people taking orders or serving the food, even though there was a large table booked at the same time as ours. No one came to take an order for desert and so we did not bother having one.

Although pretty busy, our 6.30pm reservation seemed a good time, and we were well looked after from start to finish. Food delicious for both of us, and the baked Camembert starter is still a very happy memory.
