Restaurant description

In quirky Westbourne, The Libertine offers homely British classics and an impressive bar stock. The pride of The Libertine, the outdoor Forge is a sheltered brick area filled with reclaimed furniture and a crackling wood burner.

Committed to working with the best suppliers, The Libertine in Westbourne is renowned for its charcoal-grilled steaks, delicious sharing platters and innovative puddings. From the varied Libertine menu, sample marinated duck skewers with cooling cucumber yoghurt, seafood and chorizo linguine, or the coriander lamb burger.

A comforting children’s menu offers dishes like mac ‘n’ cheese or bread hake, while experimental dessert flavours include chocolate and chilli praline torte, or plum & damson soup with vanilla panna cotta. A renowned wine cellar at Libertine features fine vintages, and locally-brewed ales are pulled at the bar.

In the dining room, vintage light fittings cast a subtle glow across the brilliant brass bar, rich caramel leather and hefty wooden furnishings. The Libertine bar is a 5-minute drive from central Bournemouth and the coast.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

Supported by the Governments 50% discount scheme the food was very good value for money. The restaurant was not busy, for. Late lunch, so we were placed and served in the pub next to it. It was not fine dining but it was wholesome ‘pub grub’.

We have been using the Libertine for many years with very little to complain about. And hopefully will be using it for many years to come. Enough said!

The food was great and there was a really buzzy atmosphere. Love the interiors too and staff were very polite.

Disappointing that they always run out of roast dinners but otherwise the food is nice.

Lovely to have the Libertine back. They are strong on steaks so that is what we had. There is a smaller menu and the starters din't look particularly exciting but lemon curd cheesecake made up for it. What hasn't changed is the service and the waiting staff who are always so friendly and pleasant they could serve spam fritters and I would still be happy!

What a delight to be back at The Libertine! After booking my table, they called to explain that in the first half of the week the Restaurant seating area is closed and would we mind sitting in the bar our outside - no problem! On arrival, there were some new friendly faces to help seat and serve (and hand gel on the arrival counter-top). We were greeted promptly and seated in the armchairs which was super. They gave us disposable food menus and explained that we'd need to scan the QR code to browse the drinks menu. After a wee while we opted to order food and drinks through the website (QR code on the table) as we hadn't been seen but soon after we ordered we had someone come and check the details of our order. The ordering process seemed to take slightly longer than you might expect between ordering drinks and service but service was always with a smile. And the draught ale and cider were excellent. Nothing much has changed layout wise with the tables because these were all well spaced before just no people milling around on foot obviously! There is a one-way system entering through the front door and exiting through the "restaurant" door that not many people realised whilst we were there despite the excellent arrows on the floor but thankfully the table changeover times didn't result in people coming face to face with each other. Our nearest table did want some help with the wine list and a staff member ran through the options with them so they didn't have to access the online version. As a dog-friendly pub it was lovely to see the staff also getting bowls of water for the canine guests. Food was top nosh as always. Did visit the facilities before leaving and they are also pretty similar to before with an additional hand gel squirt on the way in/out. Can't wait to return!

Delighted to be back in The Libertine. The safety parameters are excellent, the staff are as friendly as ever and the Pizzas are up to their usual standard (i.e. GREAT). We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and were all delighted to have spent it there.
