Set in a Tudor inn dating back to the 1400s, The Kings Arms brings elegant British cuisine to the quaint, boutique-filled village of Old Amersham. Housed in the oldest part of the hotel, the medieval-style dining room is filled with twisted wooden beams, lattice windows and grand open fireplaces, and the bar offers an impressive stock of smooth cask ales and fine wines.

Breakfast in the restaurant offers both continental and English cooked breakfasts, with a variety of choices. The A La Carte dinner menu features roast pheasant with truffle mousse, braised red cabbage, glazed chestnuts, redcurrant & juniper berry sauce, grilled Angus cross beef rump, herb butter, chips & side salad, and pan-fried scallops with Parmentier potatoes, roasted cherry vine tomato sauce & a fresh salad. Apple tart with Amaretto ice cream & calvados raisins leads the tempting desserts menu.

During the day the traditional, beamed 15th century bar is open to provide a range of drinks & bar food. The Kings Arms hotel has been used extensively in TV and film productions, including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Miss Marple & Midsomer Murders. It has also hosted many famous & historic guests, such as Oliver Cromwell.

The Kings Arms Restaurant in Amersham is a 15-minute walk from Amersham Rail Station.

Wonderful old hotel with loads of atmosphere and traditional feel. Great food at a reasonable price. Wonderful service. I come here whenever in Amersham, for lunch or afternoon tea.

The staff were pleasant and the waiter was attentive and professional. We all (6 diners) enjoyed our meals, in particular the battered fish and chips, the fish cakes and the desserts.

Extremely disappointing. Quality of food very poor. Roast potatoes inedible - Yorkshire pudding had consistency of a polystyrene block. We paid up after main courses - did not stay for deserts etc. After complaining - one of the main courses deducted from bill. i would rate similar to a poor quality carvery. The meal was part of a birthday celebration and had travelled from north London especially.

A nice experience. Food was very decent. But the restaurant wasn't very busy so I couldn't speak for the ambience!

At last minute was diverted from restaurant to a table in the bar area due large crowd in restaurant. NOT happy. Meal was fair but service spasmodic.

The food was excellent and well presented.
The service was good to start with. Staff were polite & efficient. Towards the end of the meal, however, the service became less efficient. We had to ask for tea, we were not offered desert and removal if our finished plates did not take place despite so few people in the restaurant.

Also, when we went for our dinner, we had not expected to have a discussion taking place on the next table about a couples wedding reception plans. Two members of staff and the couple talked about menus, drinks costs etc.

My suggestion is that the guests could have been taken into another area to discuss their plans. One, for their privacy and two, for ours. w
We didn't particularly wish nor expect to listen to their business meeting whilst we had our dinner.

Perhaps next time we will have a different experience.
