A cosy country-style cottage in the heart of Birmingham, The Karczma offers Polish cuisine made to centuries-old recipes. A glowing review from much-feared critic Jay Rayner champions the Karczma as ‘so good’.
Serving a wholly traditional selection, The Karczma menu spans from stuffed dumplings, warming soups and sizzling grilled kebabs, to classic stews and fresh fish. Favourites at The Karczma in Birmingham include beer-roasted ham hock with fried potatoes and sauerkraut, or sticky spare ribs with crisp salad.A host of favourite eastern European recipes for dessert includes traditional Polish apple cake, pavlova, or chocolate truffon.
A straw-covered ceiling, hefty communal tables and countless animal hides fill the homely dining room at Karczma. Head to the lively bar for a host of chilled beers served in chunky glass tankards.
Boasting 2 dining rooms and a rustic bar lined with fur-topped stools, The Karczma restaurant is a 5-minute walk from Birmingham Moor Street Rail Station and the Bull Ring Shopping Centre.

We enjoyed our visit to the Karczma. It's an unusual place although the seats are a bit hard. Huge portions were very filling. The choice of desserts was very limited and the cheesecake was definitely not fresh. We pointed this out to the waiter who said he would pass it on but nothing more was said about it. Not a cheap night out. Glad we went but probably won't go again.

We had a very pleasant evening, the atmosphere was very convivial, the service was extremely good and friendly. Enjoyed the choice of Polish food, beers and Vodkas. My only complaint would be that the portions were too big and I can normally eat a fair amount. Must re-iterate that the quality of the food was excellent. I would happily recommend friends and look forward to another visit.

We chose this restaurant because we were looking to explore a new national cuisine. The food was very tasty, we both had meat dishes which were "melt in the mouth", huge portions and great value for money. The staff were friendly and we felt like we were on holiday rather than in the middle of Brum. If you're looking to explore something delicicious and an alternative to the usual Asian cuisine Brum specialises in then go to the Karczma.

We were seen to and seated extremely quickly on arrival. The layout of the tables was superb and very clean. Theres a wide range of Polish and some English food on there menu which was a nice touch. The service was excellent however it was slow at times and that was due to there only being 2 people working when the restaurant was busy. I got the pork steak as a starter and would NOT recommend it to anyone, the presentation was good and the roast potatoes were to die for. However the actual pork was terrible. There was hardly any meat on them as the whole steak was covered in pure fat, and when i did get a bit of meet it was very tough and gristly. Overall, we had a lovely evening there and if we were to go again I would steer clear of the pork steak!
