For a taste of cuisine designed by one of Scotland's top chefs, head to The Kailyard.

As Dunblane restaurants go, it is arguably the most exclusive. What is beyond doubt though is that Kailyard's stunning setting in this pretty Scottish village provides an impressive backdrop to your meal. The clean, modern lines of the restaurant contrast with the stone facade of the Hilton Dunblane Hydro, a feature which can be admired on a relaxing stroll through the grounds before or after your meal. Its convenient setting just off the main road through the village also makes it easy to locate.

The cuisine at this Dunblane restaurant is based on the finest Scottish produce, with ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. This creates regularly changing seasonal menus of simple yet tasty food The Kailyard - a trait which characterises all of Nik Nairn's dishes.

I visited the Kailyard with my wife on a Saturday night The resturant itself is very well decorated and fits well with its surroundings as part of Dunblane Hydro Hotel. It is publicised as being a Nick Nairn resturant but it has more of a francise sort of feel about it with a few of his "signature dishes" on the menu rather than a resturant that is owned or run by him, This is reflected in the service which is more akin to a bog-standard hotel rather than an upmarket resturant. The staff were nice enough but just seemed a bit stretched, some looked a bit disinterested and lacked the attention to detail you would expect. For example, we had to ask for the waiter to take our order after stting for quite a while without a drink and we were never ever asked if we enjoyed our meal! In saying this the food was excellent and is really good value for money - at 3 courses for £30/person . The halibut main was superb and my wife loved the lamb & for dessert the Berry trifle is brilliant. All in all a good meal in nice surroundings but despite this we wont rush back.

Food was fantastic and had a great selection, loved the separate Veggie menu. Great value for 3 course Sunday lunch, the staff were very attentive and friendly and the place had a great atmosphere.

Had dinner 2 nights while staying at the hotel. Food was exquisite, great wine selection. The only downside was the live "entertainment" on the first evening - too loud and not that good.
