Lightly-curried cod fillet with tempura mussels, apple and sultanas form a delicious starter on The Jack in the Green menu, and can be followed by the ‘totally Devon option’ of tender slow-braised pork belly with star anise, ginger and rhubarb sauce. An exquisite 5-course tasting menu features a la carte options paired with harmonising wines, while a light bar menu includes comforting pies and pub classics.

Vegetarians at The Jack in the Green in Exeter can enjoy a creative veggie menu, and there’s also a carefully-considered children’s menu for little diners. Venture outdoors for sun-drenched al fresco dining, while the interior boasts 3 elegant dining rooms and a classically-styled bar.

We regularly meet up at Jack in the Green. It never disappoints. Normally we have a starter and main course and are too full for dessert. Next time we plan to have main and dessert! I have recommended this restaurant to friends who have enjoyed the experience.

Loved it as always. Excellent value. Best turbot I've had in years.

Reception always superb. My favourite vegetable is asparagus and the "specials" starter option was chosen, and an excellent dish.
Thoroughly enjoyed all our courses and, as always, the service was exceptional and all staff delightful.
We know you through many visitations and the standards remain at the very highest level.
Thank you for making our anniversary lunch a special occasion.

Food was excellent as was the service. Friendly welcome and service that struck a good balance, slick not matey, not too formal. Very interesting menu, generous portions, a wide selection of superbly cooked vegetables, all beautifully presented. Good selection of wine by the glass, and local beer on tap.

Food was excellent as it always is. The waiting staff were a little indifferent which we have never experienced here before, perhaps because it was a Sunday evening

This was our first visit, on a friend's recommendation, & it exceeded our expectations. The food was superb, service & surroundings excellent.

Really good choice of very well cooked and presented food from tasting menus, a la carte and elevated 'pub grub'.
A nice welcome and friendly, efficient staff.
Internal decor is a little lost in time but not unpleasant in any way.
I didn't love the piped pop music but that's a personal thing.
Venue accommodated a late change to our dining time which was much appreciated and kindly acknowledged our birthday celebration with a special plate of treats with a candle - nice touch.
Good choice of beers, gins and wines.
We can recommend the pork belly/check starter and both the loin of lamb and the fillet of beef from the a la carte menu.
We appreciated having a round table which was nice and social for a small group of three.
Lots of parking to the rear of the restaurant. The restaurant is set alongside a busy road and not in a pretty settling but you are not aware of this once inside and it is easy to access.

I have heard so many good reports about this restaurant that when I knew I was going to be in the area I took the opportunity to book a table for an evening meal with my wife, and I have to say say I was not at all disappointed with the quality of the food, the decor and the table service.

However, the evening was spoilt by 4 fellow diners on the table next to ours, who were very loud. In fact so loud we could not hear each other across our table without raising our voices. So sadly, after two courses we had had enough of the noise and left without having dessert. Prematurely ending our evening earlier than expected.

I mentioned to the staff that our meal had been disrupted by those on the next table but this met with little response. I accept that on the day we had arrived early and the restaurant was very quiet but, I do not expect that the poor behaviour of other diners spoiling the dining experience for your other customers should be tolerated by your staff.

On this occasion it left us feeling very disappointed and reluctant to recommend this restaurant to our friends until we have made a return visit to hopefully enjoy the experience.

Excellent atmosphere and very comfortable seating areas. Bar staff very friendly and efficient. Good choice of wines and spirits which we really enjoyed. Food was enjoyable and beautifully presented, but the waitress was sulky and not interested in serving the drinks. The waitress service was the only thing that let the place down.
