Disappointing evening. Service was spotty at best, with huge gaps of inattentiveness through the evening. The worst was waiting ten minutes for one mains, a pizza, while everyone else had to start uncomfortably on their mains. In theory, this pizza should have been the easiest to produce on time. To make matters worse, we weren't served a side dish either. On to the food... that late pizza was commendable. Much better than the pizza down the road, and preferable to the pizza chains in Lymington. Nice ingredients and a nice thin crust. The steak was "fine." Cooked to order. The chicken breast the loser of the evening; oversalted, overcooked, just one small cube of mozzarella, and an overabundance of nondescript potatoes. Lastly, watch out for the "warm breads" starter at £7.99. It's just an overglorifried serving of bread and butter; something you might actually get served complimentary elsewhere.

I have eat here before and had the sirloin steak the first time. Had the same again and was not disappointed. The staff were very attentive and I had a very enjoyable evening with 3 other friends who all enjoyed their meals.

Very busy and popular place with a wide variety of people dining including families with children, couples of all ages and older people. Service was friendly and although busy didn't have to wait any length of time. I have eaten before at the Huntsman with the same people but this visit was disappointing. I chose the chicken dish served with roasted new potatoes, procuitto ham and chicken truffle sauce which is served in the paper it's cooked in to retain the flavours it says on the menu, well I think my flavours escaped as it was bland and lacking any taste. I know it isn't always like this as one of our party has had it many times and recommended it so perhaps I was just unlucky but it was disappointing. Add to this a very lack lustre sticky toffee pudding and my meal wasn't great. To be fair when I raised the issue re the pudding it was changed but I was still disappointed as I thought it was dry and not how I have enjoyed this particular dish before. The other members of my party ate each of their meals but none of them were out of the ordinary and we were left feeling a general sense of disappointment. The drinks are on the pricey side as are the deserts which are now over £6 a time. I have no doubt the Huntsman will continue to be busy and popular but I don't think I will be rushing back myself.
