Formerly a stately house, the tastefully refurbished The Hedgehog is now a rustic gastro-pub with old world charm. It serves traditional British pub cuisine, has an Innkeeper’s Lodge, and takes pride in its large and pretty gardens with outdoor seating. Furnished with a cosy hearth-fire, patterned red brick walls and chunky dark beams, The Hedgehog in Lichfield is an enchanting countryside pub.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Hedgehog menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Hedgehog ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Hedgehog is at the edge of Lichfield in Staffordshire, only 7 minutes’ drive to Lichfield Trent Valley Train Station.

Customer reviews for The Hedgehog

I can't fault the booking service. As for my experience of the Hedgehog that is completely different. I have eaten there many times over the years & have always found it excellent. Yesterday was different, my main course was disgusting. My sister and I choose the Margertta pizza with Cheddar Cheese Mozerrta fresh Basil and triple cooked chips. The menu should have said a piece of cardboard with Cheddar Cheese grilled with four cherry tomatoes sliced in half with a sprinkle of dried herbs. No Basil no Mozerrta and no chips & a ridiculous size. This was served on what looked liked a chopping board. I couldn't,'t cut it had to tear it apart. I did speak to the waitress about this when the table was cleared and asked if we wanted dessert, as we didn't see the waitress for a good twenty minutes or so after the mains had been served. She said sorry & said we could have the chips before our dessert but it was to late at that point she said ok when you return see me and I'll sort something out. BUT why will I return. My dessert was fine but my sister had the Creme Brulee which was tiny portion no more than 3-4 teaspoonful and the biscuit was un inpressive. We then wanted coffee and tea afterwards we waited ages for someone to come back to the table. Once again I had to call someone over. I shall not return in a hurry. Waiting staff poor tables poorly set chairs miss matched and one stained. Standards have really gone down hill. And it wasn't even that busy.

Once again ( our fourth visit) our group get together was very well catered for at The Hedgehog. The service was very good especially as two of our party were delayed. We were all more than satisfied with the food choices we made. We will be back again.

Very disappointed in the whole experience at the hedgehog restaurant. Food wasn't great, had to wait for the cutlery because there wasn't enough steak knives, and the desert was served with a tea spoon..... Won't be visiting again in a hurry......

Nice venue, pleasant and relaxed surroundings. The service was very good and the staff very attentive. I was told the duck salad was great and the carrot cheesecake was superb. For me the steak and mushroom pie was a little dried out to be honest but nice all the same - think it needed a lighter pastry top. Veggies were great though.

Food very nice seemed to be the pretty general comment from my 10 strong party, however this was eclipsed by the rest of of the email. Lobster and prawn cocktail was very well received. My calamari is really liked the crispy crunch was it Japanese 'panko' breadcrumbs?
Pudding order forgotten somehow by staff and only served up as staff were clearing down at the end of the day after a certain amount of badgering by my party.
When your staff clear a course either tell us to keep our eating irons (cutlery) to eat the next course or bring us some more to eat the next course like a 1 star 60's french restaurant used to do. Don't leave it to customers to work out.
Don't serve a sticky Toffee pudding and custard with solely a fork! Or is this all part of slide a time when we all ate with our hands ?
I have eaten in the Hedgehog a few times albeit a few years ago and enjoyed the experience, but this was pretty ghastly episode and I can't see me putting my family reputation at risk by returning anytime soon.
Wine glasses bought to table straight from the dishwasher not fully dry and still warm.
Wine uncorked away from the table.
I suppose that as we were a big party and able to book up on mothers day weekend at short notice obviously those who know restaurants have already voted with their feet and moved out.
Please pass on my apologies for ill directed anger at the bar man when I paid my bill , IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DIRECTED AT THE (TOTAL LACK OF) MANAGEMENT OF RESTAURANT and our thanks to the waiter who sat us and took our order for the first two courses with whom we have no problem but we lost contact with him and then it descended into chaos.
I cannot recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy let alone a friend.
I can't see this summary of our dining experience ever being exposed to a third party

Went as a party of seven to celebrate a family birthday. Table we were shown to was fine. When we came to order I was told that the vegetarian main course was sold out. The waiter only offered a burger or ceaser salad as an alternative. I asked if the chef could do an alternative and was told that was not possible. I am surprised that it is not possible for a chef to make up a simple vegetable pasta dish. I settled for having two starters for a main course. Not ideal. The waiter did not seem concerned. I also heard him telling other tables a list of thing not available. A bit disappointing to be honest. Not sure if we will return.
I realise that restaurants run out of things when busy, but the staff attitude was that they were not bothered.. a little bit of effort would have made the experience a lot better.
