What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £12.50 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
Situated in a historic village over the River Crouch, The Hawk in Battlesbridge dates back to the 17th century, still a charming country inn. Serving time-honoured British pub dishes, The Hawk has pretty, extensive gardens with seating for al fresco dining. Inside, the rustic oaken beams, cosy hearth-fire and local antiques diversify the furnishings, but aid the country feel.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Hawk menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Hawk ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Hawk is just 2 minutes’ walk from Battlesbridge Train Station, in Essex.

Love this restaurant as it has a good Vegan Menu. You can have a conversation without being drowned out by loud music. The staff are really helpful. Like the idea of a hot drink and mini dessert. Have to say though the crumble is too dry!

Unfortunately I had a disastrous time .. i chose The Hawk because i love the food its ambience and the ataff are always very friendly ..for my birthday meal we thought of sitting outside weather was hot ..then realised we would have to keep going to the bar to get our drinks ..after 5 mins we decided to sit inside but they had given our table away! We stayed outside but the tables were cluttered and dirty the staff seemed under a lot of pressure with little or no staff serving .. on ordering our starters and main we wanted to make sure the main didn't come too early but was advised to order the main anyway in case of a delay .. unfortunately the mains came while we were still eating our starters therefore had to be taken back ...when they came back out the lamb dish was wrong ..we ordered rack of lamb not lamb kebabs this meant my friend had to wait to for her lamb cutlets to cook..we had eaten ours by this time .. my other friend had fish and chips but the batter wasn't crispy it was soft we are assuming it was kept warm until we finished our starters .. We had deserts too ..all the food is delicious no fault there but it was a shambles from the beginning .i also had a voucher for an aperol spritz with a main meal I assumed because it was my birthday it was with every meal but no... so tbh my evening was spoilt and I wished i hadn't gone out We complained and was given the deserts free in the end ..
