Situated in a historic village over the River Crouch, The Hawk in Battlesbridge dates back to the 17th century, still a charming country inn. Serving time-honoured British pub dishes, The Hawk has pretty, extensive gardens with seating for al fresco dining. Inside, the rustic oaken beams, cosy hearth-fire and local antiques diversify the furnishings, but aid the country feel.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Hawk menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Hawk ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Hawk is just 2 minutes’ walk from Battlesbridge Train Station, in Essex.

Waited for table, waited ages to order, waited ages for food to arrive and when it did it was inedible e.g raw prawns. Obviously very understaffed. Spoiled our evening as I had taken a friend and recommended the restaurant as I have previously enjoyed it there.

We arrived early and were greeted and offered a choice of being seated at our table or taking a drink at the bar. Two small things, but being greeted is rare nowdays in pub restaurants, and being given a choice was a nice way of making us feel special. We took a drink at the bar then went to the table. The waitresses were very helpful as one of my sons is a vegetarian, and he wanted to share a meal with the other son. My mother also wanted some slight changes to the vegetables, all were incorporated cheerily and accurately. The food itself was very good. I had the monkfish which was delightful. My parents told me the pork dish was lovely too.

Everything was fine but they did not have any indication of my booking when we arrived. Luckily they had a table available for us and we were perfectly happy with our meal
