I booked this for lunch for 2 on my wifes birthday. They offered a varied menu which more than fulfilled our requirements. The staff were very courteous, the ambience delightful and the food superb.

We were keen to try the restaurant since the chef had changed. The dining room felt more spacious and airy than before. All the staff were lovely, professional and respectful. The atmosphere was nice with a good group of diners but not overly crowded. Food was superb as usual. I had requested a special bottle of champagne for our anniversary which you kindly sorted for us, making the day and the meal even more special.

The quality of the food was outstanding. All meat dishes were cooked to perfection and everyone in our party of seven thought the same. Very polite staff and our only minor quibble was that the hot drinks at the end of the meal were spread out over 15 minutes so we couldn't drink them together. Other than that we had a great dining experience.

Warm welcome from attentive staff when we arrived and the good customer care carried on throughout the evening. Food was very tasty and well presented, as we had expected. Being offered a choice of wine, when I asked for a medium/dry white, would have been appreciated. The restaurant was quiet for a Thursday evening but did not trouble us, we made our own atmosphere.

Food was outstanding. Had beetroot and goat's cheese starter and gnocchi for main.
My only complaint was the service. Felt rushed from start to finish. Waiters didn't engage in any conversation and they felt almost robotic. I appreciate the need for professionalism but this was beyond that. Real shame as it was a lovely evening otherwise.
Shame there were no local beers on tap too.

Very quiet when we visited - the service was very good and food very tasty. The menu was a little limited for a pescatarian / vegetarian, but the chef was able to offer a couple of bespoke options which was great. All in all great value for money, and would wholeheartedly recommend. The crumble desert was awesome!

Overall good meal, attentive service.we ordered plaice and lamb, fish could have been a little less cooked but was tasty; lamb beautifully pink and tasty. Jersey Royals cooked well but had some taste added which masked the subtle natural flavour of the potatoes; cauliflower cheese delicious; desserts: strawberryand cream ‘ball’ a little over engineered, strawberry flavours not sufficiently identifiable; Jaffa chocolate better balanced and very much enjoyed. In general dishes tend to be a little too fussy and complicated with too many different competing tastes; price position ok though it does add up with side orders of potatoes and vegetables. Irish coffees disappointing with too little coffee, too much cream and not quite warm enough.
We heard that Tommy Heaney is opening a new restaurant in Cardiff and will no longer be actively involved in the Great House leaving behind a trained team. We will monitor if Tomny’s departure will affect quality in future.

The food was delicious. I had lamb which was glorious. Staff was generally good but they did manage to bring the wrong food lamb instead of turbot! Just as well I wasn't s Michelin reviewer :-) the dining room is a bit soulless- can't believe they used s designer to get that effect!
However, the bar area is dreadful - previously it was a bit run down but there were comfortable seats but now they have s horrible bench and one stool - if you don't get a place on sofas by fire you can forget it. So no place to relax for pre and post dinner drinks. Maybe the area won't support that but would put me off staying here again. They have also put backless unsympathetic chairs outside - so no place to take older relatives for afternoon tea either.
