Totally delicious! The Strawberries and cream was amaxing! And the plate with a happy anniversary chocolate message was a lovely surprise and finishing touch! My favourite restaurant.

Very quiet when we visited - the service was very good and food very tasty. The menu was a little limited for a pescatarian / vegetarian, but the chef was able to offer a couple of bespoke options which was great. All in all great value for money, and would wholeheartedly recommend. The crumble desert was awesome!

Overall good meal, attentive service.we ordered plaice and lamb, fish could have been a little less cooked but was tasty; lamb beautifully pink and tasty. Jersey Royals cooked well but had some taste added which masked the subtle natural flavour of the potatoes; cauliflower cheese delicious; desserts: strawberryand cream ‘ball’ a little over engineered, strawberry flavours not sufficiently identifiable; Jaffa chocolate better balanced and very much enjoyed. In general dishes tend to be a little too fussy and complicated with too many different competing tastes; price position ok though it does add up with side orders of potatoes and vegetables. Irish coffees disappointing with too little coffee, too much cream and not quite warm enough.
We heard that Tommy Heaney is opening a new restaurant in Cardiff and will no longer be actively involved in the Great House leaving behind a trained team. We will monitor if Tomny’s departure will affect quality in future.

The food was delicious. I had lamb which was glorious. Staff was generally good but they did manage to bring the wrong food lamb instead of turbot! Just as well I wasn't s Michelin reviewer :-) the dining room is a bit soulless- can't believe they used s designer to get that effect!
However, the bar area is dreadful - previously it was a bit run down but there were comfortable seats but now they have s horrible bench and one stool - if you don't get a place on sofas by fire you can forget it. So no place to relax for pre and post dinner drinks. Maybe the area won't support that but would put me off staying here again. They have also put backless unsympathetic chairs outside - so no place to take older relatives for afternoon tea either.

Favourite dish were the croquettes! Absolutely amazing flavours on all of the dishes we had, a true taste sensation & reasonably priced for the quality of food too.
Only issue was the the staff left empty glasses and bottles on the table. Nothing major. Building is beautiful and it was lovely to be able to sit outside and enjoy the garden area.

This was my first visit to The Great House. It was a celebratory meal for my birthday - but dining for one.
The staff are very attentive without being intrusive, with a good atmosphere. The food is good, but not extravagant.
Food is fashionably under-cooked, so if you like crunching your way through the vegetables you will love this place. For my taste, I would like them just a bit more cooked. I have no problem with "pink" lamb, but needed to ask for a better knife to be able to cope with the crunchy veg and the meat.
Portion sizes are generous, especially the main course. I had the Sunday 3 course meal which is very modestly priced, and considered that overall it was excellent value for money. The one thing that I did mention at the time, was that the taramasalata style acompaniment to the broccoli was over salty. Other than that the flavour was very good
