A wonderful lunch for a special family occasion. Elegant surroundings, excellent food and service. Quite pricey but well worth it for the quality of the experience.

It’s was not good coz we have to wait for the table for long time, it’s my birthday and anniversary celebration but the candle and piece of cake turn out when we are already on the lobby ready to go home as we can see the waiter is looking for us, the place is nice apart from they are not organised,

Booked for a special occasion and not let down. Exquisite flavours and beautifully presented in an elegant dining room.

Though I have had many lovely dinners here, perhaps The Goring aren't best suited for a pre-theatre menu. Despite telling the staff, including the maitre'd and our waiter, that we had a 7:30 show around the corner, there was no apparent rush to take our order or clear plates in a timely fashion. This, coupled with a few snafus around drink orders and not being able to find our reservation on first glance, gave the impression that they were a bit short on staff or generally not well organized.

In all, I was sadly disappointed to not have made it to our main course before we had to ask for the bill (several times) and leave.

My wife and I visited the Goring for lunch on Sunday. Although there was no-one to welcome us on arrival, we found a member of staff near the bar and said we had booked a table for lunch, but we would like a drink in the bar first. He wrongly assumed that we were taking lunch in the bar. The reception was rather unfriendly and very unenthusiastic, leading to a poor first impression. However, the same gentleman prepared an excellent Bloody Mary for each of us. I asked him if the restaurant was open as I had assumed by reservation was in that room for lunch. He said he would tell them we had arrived and bring us some menus.
After a second Bloody Mary the atmosphere warmed a little and another gentleman came from the dining room to take our order. He was very friendly and made us feel as though we were going to have an enjoyable visit.
On entering the dining room, the impression is one of quiet, calm professionalism. The service was impeccable as was the food, but the star of the show was, without doubt, the young sommelier.
We both had the fresh asparagus to start which was excellent and we both had lobster omelettes with a small, but adequate, lobster Caesar salad, accompanying these were the very best chips I have ever eaten; crisp and firm on the outside but hot and fluffy on the inside. The omelettes were so rich that neither my wife nor I could finish the whole dish. They were beautifully cooked, light but very rich with some delicious lobster in the middle.
I had chosen a favourite, but rarely seen, wine, Ch Branaire-Ducru. The sommelier talked knowledgeably about the wine and wines in general. It was a pleasure to have a discussion with such a knowledgeable young man. He decanted the wine professionally and looked after our glasses throughout lunch.
We finished with some first-class cheeses and a glass each of Tawny port.
An excellent Sunday lunch and we shall certainly return to The Goring. Having broken the ice our next visit may illicit a warmer welcome.

Absolutely superb, food and service was exemplary and the lobster omelette was one of the best dishes I'd ever eaten. Also a lovely room to dine in.
