Restaurant description

From Marcus Wareing, Gilbert Scott London showcases fine British produce in the illustrious surrounds of the 19th-century St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. The venue houses a spectacular grand dining room as well as an intimate cocktail bar.

Packed with rich British and European dishes, the Gilbert Scott menu begins with starters such as house-cured salmon with bergamot buttermilk and clementine, and slow-cooked chicken & Sauternes terrine with confit egg yolk, anchovy and capers.

Follow this with organic Cornish lamb saddle, served with roasted January King cabbage, hazelnuts and garlic cream, or roasted bass, with 'nduja, white onion and potato ragu and fennel salad. From the grill, sample the Aberdeen Angus Chateaubriand, or tandoori-spiced monkfish tail.

George's Bar at The Gilbert Scott serves up creative drinks in show-stopping, 19th-century surroundings. World wines are joined by house cocktails, including The Admiral's Choice, the Rhubarb and Ginger Sour, and The Herbalist, comprising thyme-infused gin, green Chartreuse, elderflower, lime and absinthe.

A truly British institution in an iconic setting, Gilbert Scott restaurant sits yards from the platforms at King’s Cross Rail Station.

The dining room at the Gilbert Scott is impressive and elegant, and overall the food was lovely - as was the service. The caramelised onion soup with gruyere on toast is an excellent starter, and the pheasant stew a real treat on a cold night. The fish cooked beautifully. the desserts were excellent. The cherry bakewell was magnificent. The pears lovely. The only let down? The vegetables. Lukewarm gratin dauphinois (not quite cold enough to send back), and bland and boring buttered vegetables (cabbage). But a lovely lovely visit.

Restaurant lacked ambiance. The food was very average & the Apple crumble I chose for desert was so hard I left it in fear of cracking a tooth.

The table service and food were excellent and I would recommend the set menu for value for money. The dining room and setting are probably one of the best in London.

Some staff made us feel inferior because we had booked an offer. The offer included a glass of fizz which we had to ask for. I had put on the booking that I had a cheese allergy but there were very few items on the menu thst did not include cheese. No alternatives could be given, not even chips as "the fryer has broken". Weren't told that we only had the table for a short time and were only made aware of this when a waiter placed the bill on our table and said they would need the table in 10 mins. Overall, not a good experience for such a prestigious establishment.

The food and service were excellent as usual. A special word for the ox cheek, which was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth.

We were there to celebrate my sons’ birthday. The front of house really made the event special. They got the ‘everyday’ book signed by Marcus and my daughter in law was really chuffed to have met Marcus and got a photo with him. On the food end, we had 3 x set menu and 2x a la carte but on all the courses, the food was average. The ox cheek was not bad but the salted cod was very salty, non of us could finish the food. The pigeon in the Waldorf salad was dry and the dressing were not mixed in properly whilst the plate was too small so the salad kept spilling out of the plate. The monk fish was good but nothing to remember by. Overall it was rather disappointing. Assuming the book launch preparation hindered the kitchen delivery that day but it was not the best food experience we have had!
