A refurbished pub with a spacious dining area, The George & Dragon – Epping serves a menu of modern British cuisine with Mediterranean influences. With barrel-top tables, monochromatic armchairs & fireplaces warming it, the pub is a homey country-style retreat.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The George & Dragon menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The George & Dragon bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The George & Dragon – Epping in Essex is a 12-minute walk from Epping Tube Station.

It was extremely busy & had to wait for 40 minutes before getting seated even though we had booked. The waiter tried hard but kept forgetting our drinks & getting them wrong I really don't know why they can't write it down! I had the lamb roast dinner it should of been called a lamb fat roast dinner as there was hardly any meat just fat, we also asked for gravey which was meant to be bottomless all we got was a dribble on the plate & when we asked for more it never turned up. Then to top it off the waiter gave us the wrong bill we only realised when he had taken our money then practically accused us of changing the bill (not sure how on earth we could of done that) then as we owed extra money we paid using a card machine which broke 3 times, the waiter was then practically banging it on the side getting very angry. So we won't be going back.

Shambolic!! Many items we chose were unavailable, 2 of which were suddenly off the menu about 40 minutes after being ordered!!

We had a celebratory lunch here with friends. The food wasn't bad but not great: turkey was dry; potatoes and veg nice; dessert was very sickly sweet. Overall, quite expensive for the quality of the meal. The staff were inexperienced and service was poor. They took 30 minutes to ask us what drinks we would like. At the end, I was asked by the waiter if I wanted anything else, and when I replied asking for a glass of water, he told me abruptly that they needed the table back as people had been waiting at the bar for 20 minutes. They had made no mention of needing the table back at the beginning or at any point during the meal so we were taken quite aback by this. Wouldn't return.

The pub/ restaurant has been done up and is looking nice. The service behind the bar and in the restaurant is not good at all. The bar staff looked like they didn’t want to be there and the service in the restaurant was very slow.
Having a drink before dinner no one cleared or wiped the table. They had completely ran out of any bottle diet drinks and all crisps.
In the restaurant we had to keep calling the staff over when we wanted something.
We normally love having a drink and food in our local pub but the service has definitely gone downhill. In any customer facing profession you need a smile on your face and friendly smile at all times.

I was VERY, VERY disappointed. Having booked the table to spend the evening with a great friend, who I wanted to be able to talk with. When we arrived our table was located just next to the back door, normally this would be ok but not on New Year's Eve. The door was being used by young customers from the pub/disco area who were making their way outside to have a cigarette. We were constantly being knocked and I asked to be moved, several times. I was informed there were no spare tables anywhere. (Not the case at all, as there was a table I watched throughout my meal, that was never occupied and this would have placed us away from the door and the extremely loud music).
The disco set up in the bar lounge area was so loud my guest and I were unable to hear/speak to each other speak. There was no mention of the disco on the special new years eve menu at my time of booking!
We were NOT offered a drink on arrival, I had leave our table and find a member of staff to bring us a menu and provide us with a drink.
The staff were running around like headless chickens, literally running! The food was OK but not £59.95's worth.
We left before we were offered coffee as the noise and the atmosphere were intolerable.
No I would not recommend it to anybody at all. DO NOT GO THERE ON NEW YEARS EVE unless you are under 25 or partially deaf.

Considering I left a comment on my booking explaining that we were celebrating a birthday I felt like the service was rushed especially after having to wait to be seated.
