The restaurant itself is lovely - as you would expect in a 5* hotel, but the food was a huge let down. I understand that for £31 you can't expect a Michelin experience, but in the very least a good home cook level was expected. Sadly, it fell far short. The entries were bland on nondescript, the mains were the same. Deserts looked and tasted as if they were bought at a mediocre cake shop. Side dishes was the only reasonable food on the table.

We were a party of 4 celebrating a 60th birthday. We arrived in the lounge bar and asked to see the menus. After a drink we had all decided what we wanted from the menu. We got to the entrance of The Garden Room restaurant and was met by a "frosty " maitre'd and was asked if we had seen the menus which we said yes then asked if someone had taken our order to which we replied no but we all knew what we wanted to order. She seemed to be a bit miffed by this but we were shown to our table. Our booking was for 8pm we were shown to our table around 8.15. We were waiting for approx 20 minutes and still nobody had come over to us to take our order! I subsequently went back to the maitre 'd station ( by this time there were 4 of them there standing around) I politely but firmly pointed out that we were still waiting for someone to take our order and as I was speaking the female maitre 'd kept saying "I am coming I am coming! I this point I walked away. A male waiter then came over and took our order. After waiting a further 15 or so minutes I had to asked for the wine list! So far the service was appauling in my eyes for a 5 star hotel. Our food finally arrived. I had the smallest prawn cocktail I have ever seen in my life and one of my party had the mushroom soup which was like water!! When asked how the starters were when taking them away I did mention what we thought but no comment was made back! Our main course arrived after a while 3 of the meals were very nice unfortunately mine wasn't apart from being Luke warm the jues was I can only describe as burnt taste. I did not complain at the time as all others in my party were happy with theirs and up till then the service was so bad I'm sure I would of waited at least 30 minutes for something else! After the main course the waiter did not question why I had hardly touched my food but one would think it would be questionable? Anyhow we were asked if we wanted sweet menu to which we all declined.!

A lovely restaurant experience. Beautiful dining room; Staff very attentive but not over intrusive. Good food nicely prepared and presented and an excellent wine list. My husband really enjoyed the Australian chardonnay that he had ordered.
