My wife and I have dined here several times over the last three or four years and were not disappointed this time again. Friendly attentive staff, great food and lovely surroundings. I pre-booked this time and it was a simple operation, including selecting a time to eat. Cocktails beforehand added to the enjoyment.

Generally very enjoyable: Faults - difficult to find: For me personally I struggled to find a desert on the menu I liked and then disappointed with my choice of the Mont Blanc - not a home made meringue and a strange tasting nutty chocolate whip.

The actual restaurant itself is a very grand room in the hotel, with fine furniture and soft carpets. The staff are very friendly and attentive = one example is when my wife had to leave the table at one point, and the waiter who had brought her soup quickly got a saucer to put over her soup to help keep it warm until she returned. The food is excellent and has nice flavours. You can tell it is freshly prepared. Also, what I like about the choice of food is that while there are some dishes that I wouldn't know what they are, there are always some meals that are instantly recognisable like the Battered Cod and Chips that my wife and I enjoyed. I want to add that while the Garden Restaurant is in a very posh hotel, and my wife and I aren't very grand ourselves (I am a delivery driver), the staff are so friendly that we feel very comfortable eating there.

I came here for Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday. My friend was treating me, so there were just two of us. Everything lived up to our expectations! It was my first visit and it could not have been better. My friend has dined here before and so she knew what to expect. Our table was well placed and our waiter was most attentive. We chose two courses from the table d’hote menu - I had the smoked duck and cumquat salad and my friend chose the asparagus and poached egg. She said the egg was perfect but the asparagus was woody so she couldn’t eat it all. My duck was lovely.
We both had the roast beef sirloin which was exceptional. It was really tender and nice and rare as we had ordered. The vegetables were equally delicious and the whole meal was a delight. We were too full to manage a dessert but ordered pots of tea which we drank outside the restaurant sitting on very comfortable wing chairs looking at the gardens. We had booked lunch for 12.30pm and didn’t leave until after 4pm. Such a relaxing and enjoyable day!! Also, listening to the live pianist was a very pleasant touch.
We are planning to return for my friend‘s 80th birthday in March and hopefully again whenever we can.
