Breakfast is served from 07:00 to 10:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:00 to 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Lunch is served daily from 12:30 to 14:00. Dinner is served daily from 19:00 to 22:00.

    We were treating my sister for lunch on New Years Eve. We had drinks in the bar beforehand but had to wait quite a while to be served. We also had to ask for crisps and nuts. I was appalled at the price of the two glasses of champagne!! We had elected to have a latish lunch and chose the 13.45 slot. The starters were fine as were the desserts. Having been asked how we would like our main course beef - we were most surprised and annoyed to t hen be served a most unsatisfactory meat. Dry,overcooked and tasteless. The vegetables were also uninspiring - plain and boiled carrots, beans and celeriac. Roast potatoes - ok. We had to ask for extra gravy.
    A 5* hotel and restaurant really needs to be just that. It is the attention to detail that raises it to a level that impresses. It is not merely the price that should be high We travel and eat out extensively and this was an old English provincial style lunch and really not up to the standard that we would expect. The service was adequate but somewhat less than perfect
    Finally, If you wish to dress and prepare a room for another event you should not do so while guests are still dining. There should have been an additional restaurant or no lunchtime service A real disappointment overall.

    Last minute choice.. I was pleasantly surprised with this beautiful hotel. The Garden Restaurant itself isn’t as grand as the lobby but still impressive. Food was very very good as was the service. Would definitely visit again. My only negative comment would be the lack of any sort of music in the bar areas.. deathly quiet.. no ambience. Bizarre as reading the history of the hotel on their own website says it’s history is famous for its association with music!

    Oh dear, nowhere near as good as it should or could be. My husband and I usually dine at the Mirabelle (the other Grand Hotel restaurant) but unfortunately it was not open. The Garden Restaurant is only marginally less expensive than the Mirabelle, but the quality of the food is far inferior. Service is attentive and good, although several mistakes were made due to communication misunderstandings. We were also overcharged, but when this was pointed out, it was dealt with immediately with courtesy, efficiency and apologies. (This has, however, also happened to us on a previous visit?) The food is alas average, and for average, it is overpriced. I have had far better food at local gastro pubs for a fraction of the cost. We will maybe try again as we like the overall dining experience, but the quality of the food needs to improve immeasurably. One other small point, which does not bother me in the least, but I noticed a disgruntled adjoining table: there is a dress code (a tad outdated I know) but it clearly states collared shirt or jacket; it's a code which the majority of people respect. However, two gentlemen diners arrived in tight-fitting tee-shirts and jogging suit bottoms. I'm curious as to whether the dress code is enforceable or not? If not, then I'm going to don sportswear next time I dine.

    Lovely, spacious setting and outstanding service for a leisurely family Sunday lunch. The vegetarian menu and meals were excellent - far better than those offered and provided by most other restaurants. The starters were small, simple and quite acceptable. The roast beef lunch, however, was very disappointing. We were offered a choice of rare or medium,etc., but all four portions were exactly the same - well done. The Yorkshire was soggy; the roast potatoes were unacceptably amateurish, poor and devoid of crispness; the carrots, swede and shredded savoy were over-cooked and uninspiring. The horseradish and gravy, however, were surprisingly excellent.

    The deserts were dull but fine - though very over-sweet. The sorbets were particularly poor and tasted only of glycerine. Overall, it was average home cooking rather than 5 star restaurant cooking. But the service and ambience were as good as it gets.

    The wine list was absurd - it really is not acceptable to have to pay over £40 just to have an ordinary bottle of average red wine with your lunch.

    We had to pay full price for a 5 yr old's lunch. We were offered, and accepted, half-size portions - but were surprised to find a they end that these had come at the same price as adult full-size portions.

    Very good service, good choice on the menu. we chose the festive lunch . generous portions waiting staff first class.only one small concern no lounge to sit in and rest after our lunch, coffee was served at our table.

    Sunday lunch at the Garden Restaurant in the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne. Grand indeed! The staff were very attentive and helpful and the food was excellent. My guests and I settled for a traditional Sunday roast beef. We had a light starter of various melons, beautifully presented. The beef and all the accompaniments were perfection. Dessert, for me, was fruit salad and my guests had profiteroles and also ice cream. Wine was expensive...but it always is in a restaurant and we did not begrudge them making a profit there since the three-course meal was only £31 each! For the quality, outstanding value. Lovely classy ambience with a pianist gently playing in the background.

    We were left in the bar area despite knowing we were booked in restaurant and had to take our drinks into the dining room as well as costs which we were told to put on the back of our chairs whilst we ate. Also in the bar the staff only acknowledged myself asking how I was and did not interact or ask about my wife who was sitting with me. They served the drinks stating Good evening Mr Starmer how are you and never bothered to ask my wife anything. Slightly embarrassing. Food as usual was good but it was our first visit for a while and we could see the change.
