Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.

Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.

Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.

A beautiful coastal treat that holds a charming holiday feel, The Gallivant is just an 8-minute drive from Rye Rail Station.

Looks like a small menu, but don't be deceived, the choice is amazing. I would happily have ordered any of the dishes.

Good food and service. Fish soup was a bit short on substance.

We visited with Swedish friends on a relatively quiet Sunday evening. The food was excellent as always but the experience was spoilt by slow and rather indifferent service, a noisy young family (not the fault of the restaurant of course) and the distraction of the laying up of tables around us for breakfast even while we were finishing our main course.

Such a lovely environment and a warm welcome. We had lovely service from everyone on the team nicely anticipated. Felt spoilt for choice with the evening menu and were delighted with the quality of the food and the extensive wine list. Seating was comfortable with gorgeous sheepskin throws and tables nicely spaced out.
Will definitely book when we are next in Winchelsea.

Great location, fresh fish as expected and well cooked and tasty dishes; friendly service. They also allow doggies on terrace which is a big plus! Overall recommended

All the staff made myself, my partner and my 5-year-old son very welcome. They were very accommodating and engaging with my son and would like to praise the chef for his flexibility in preparing something for my son to eat. For me and my partner, the food was of a very high standard and thoroughly enjoyable.

Although booking confirmed 6 people, they had us down for 5. The initial table was cramped for 6 so they moved us to a much larger one which was great. The service was abit erratic and the white wine was not cold. The food however was very good.
