Excellent food - creative but not complicated. Fresh flavoursome ingredients and nice presentation. Staff could be a bit more attentive. Great experience and can only recommend it to any gourmet foodies.

Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.

Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.

Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.

    fantastic. We have visited this restaurant since it opened as The Place - it deteriorated and we visited less often. Then changed to Gallivants and we visited occasionally and the standard came back. This time all décor has changed and everything , particularly the food and atmosphere was right back and plus as to when it first opened. We have also stayed and now visiting again we will certainly be back and stay overnight.. Pleased to see swimsuits still on display - so interesting. loved it!!!

    The food was fantastic. Usually the service is good and our waitress was great but there was no one to greet us. We arrived and sat down for about 10 mins and in the end went to the bar to ask for drinks. Given that the restaurant has now been refurbished and the food is excellent you need someone at the helm front of house. Also we have been to your restaurant a number of times and no one recognises us. It’s a shame because we love the restaurant and food. But we’re disappointed with the way the front of house is managed.

    Went for a Sunday lunch and the mains were absolutely excellent. However, this was somewhat marred by the particularly slow service and having to change multiple orders as the kitchen had run out of at least one dish per course (not great when there's only 4-5 dishes per course). When it came to deserts we waited for over 30 minutes for them to arrive, and when they did, there was no apology whatsoever for the delay. Baffled as to why it took so long as there was only one other group still in the restaurant eating. Even heard other parties complaining about waiting to be severed. Bit of a shame.

    It was wonderful from start to finish, despite the venue being extremely busy with a wedding party!
    Service was great...made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. All the staff were friendly, helpful, courteous and informative. My wife has dietary restrictions and the staff were very helpful and considerate in regard to this.

    We had a fantastic meal last Saturday night. Beautiful setting, tasteful & welcoming decor. Service was perfect, friendly, helpful and enthusiastic wait-staff. The food was fantastic, portion sizes were spot on, sourced from local ingredients, fresh and very tasty. It's rare I have a meal as good as this without all the attitude some London restaurants have.
    When the bill came I was a little worried bc we ordered so much food, but the price was so reasonable. Will definitely go back.
    Thank you, The Gallivant, for restoring my belief in the British restaurant experience.

    Nice well-presented, locally sourced food and really good friendly service. A good atmosphere in this modern hotel restaurant, with an outdoor seating option

    The gazpacho was excellent. Fried squid a bit chewy, and the salad accompaniment a bit bland, but still a tasty dish. The cauliflower main was excellent, far better than most veggie offerings in other restaurants. Cod (I think it was) and iron age pork chop both very good. No dessert. We thought that the bread offered was uninteresting and both bread and water should have been replenished more readily.
