Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.
Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.
Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.
A beautiful coastal treat that holds a charming holiday feel, The Gallivant is just an 8-minute drive from Rye Rail Station.

Very cool place. Difficult to get to on a bank holiday weekend with the traffic around Camber Sands. The Salted Caramel Tart with milk ice cream was one of the best desserts I have eaten in a long time - savour every mouthful!

We've been coming to the Gallivant 2 or 3 times a year, since it converted from the little motel it used to be, to the first version of the hotel/restaurant it is today; so about 15 years. We've yet to have a bad meal, and this was more of the same. My sons had the vegetarian gnocchi, and the home made fish finger sandwich. My parents (both mid-eighties) had the sea bass with local veg, and the mackerel with beetroot. As for myself, I had two starters; charred squid and warm lobster and morghew potato salad with summer vegetables. Every last dish and the deserts that followed were beautiful.
The service too was exemplary, from both the maitre'd and the waitress, attentive, helpful, and thoughtful (a discreet treat for one of our octogenarians, after overhearing the mention of a birthday.
First class. We love this place

Lovely environment, great food and good service. They catered well for a vegan and a non-vegan with a nut allergy.

Booking the restaurant was easy. We had been to the restaurant before for my Mother and Father's wedding anniversary when it was shabby sheik and had a lot of atmosphere. This time round we found it a bit clinical. I will not take away anything from the decoration as it has been to a very good standard and the bathing suits in the frame gave us something to talk about.
We did find the wine list rather expensive and the choice of food a bit limited, but we cannot fault the food that we had,as it was cooked perfectly. The dessert menu was rather limited and most of the dishes were very rich.
I would recommend that people try it themselves as we all have different opinions.

Delicious and beautifully presented food. The warm lobster salad and local lamb dishes stood out as truly excellent. The vegetables and sauce with the bass dish packed an impressive flavour punch and were gorgeously colourful. The salted caramel tart was incredibly good - salty with a slightly burned tang - just perfect. Excellent Chablis.

Always a good choice. Decor improves every time we go - a smart seaside location serving good quality food and good service in a great ambience. Not cheap but worth it
