Modern classy restaurant about 5 mins. drive from Rye. Attentive pleasant waiting staff, great food with predominantly fish on the menu. The Rye area certainly needs more like this!

Inspired by the coastal eateries of California, The Gallivant is perched right beside the Camber Sands dunes. This laid-back, relaxing setting has al fresco seating to enjoy the sea air look and out across the beach, and showcases a great variety of modern British dishes.

Set in an area rich in local produce, The Gallivant menu tries to source every ingredient from within a 10 mile radius. There are tastes of the seafront with dishes like smoked haddock with Rye bay cockles, spring onion and cured mayo, and classic favourites such as saddleback pork chop with creamed Morghew potato and smashed swede. On Sundays, there are generous roasts with fresh Bloody Marys.

Delectable desserts at The Gallivant in Rye come beautifully presented, with treats like buttermilk panna cotta with rhubarb sorbet and granola. The wine list features over 130 bottles, including carefully selected English vintages.

A beautiful coastal treat that holds a charming holiday feel, The Gallivant is just an 8-minute drive from Rye Rail Station.

Absolutely fabulous experience - the staff were relaxed and just on the right side of polite. They catered to the children beautifully and even amended their menu to accommodate little foibles.

Both wonderful food and service. Superb asparagus starter and delicious local lamb. The team recommended perfect wine pairings too. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

The food was lovely and locally sourced which is a plus with us. I had the lamb which was perfectly cooked to how I liked it. The waitress (who was new) looked after us well and was very attentive. My only criticism, but it is significant since it affected my comfort during the meal, was how close together the tables were. We were a couple at a table for two with a couple on either side of us (at tables for two also). There as only 12” between the tables and we could hear every word of the other people’s conversations and I’m sure they could hear every word of ours. There was no intimacy at a romantic meal for my birthday. Given the high prices I would have thought there would be more privacy. This did ruin the meal for me

The Gallivant is an amazing restaurant and with the changes to their terrace even batter. The food is all locally sourced and as good as you will find anywhere and you can chose from a great list of local English wines too. Great crab, lamb and one extraordinary pud of basil panacotta and fennel sorbet just delicious

Wonderful wonderful lengthy lunch out. Delicious Chapel Down GandT , beautifully chilled Sauvignon, fantastic lamb main and divinely chocolate mousse for pudding. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. No sense of being rushed. Heaven!

We had a nice meal but felt that it was not deserving of its price tag. Three courses and a drink came to £50 per head (including service). I think £30 per person would have been about fair. The dining room was nice, bright and airy but not a great view and we also didn’t really like how many prospective wedding guests were shown around during lunch service.

Well cooked food all locally sourced. We had the lamb which was £22 which is expensive for me but very nice. The rose wine I had smelt like cheese and wasn’t very nice. As they only serve locally produced wine, there wasn’t my usual Sauvignon available. The log fire was lovely to look at but the restaurant was way too hot to be comfortable. The waitresses were very friendly and pleasant.
