What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £13.95 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
With a large al fresco dining area and a spacious car park, The Fox – Harpenden is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British dishes. Inside, leather armchairs, ethnic ornaments and walls painted in rich purples & oranges make this a cosy space to enjoy a traditional Sunday roast or a pint of refreshing beer.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Fox menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Fox bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
The Fox – Harpenden is a 7-minute drive from Harpenden Rail Station.

Very good waiter service. Sea Bass fillets were excellent although we waited a long time the food was obviously cooked well and enjoyed. Mini sweets were a very good idea.

We have been here several times and have always enjoyed the service and food, unfortunately our recent visit was not so great. To start with the menu was very limited as it was a Valentines menu advertised at £29.99 pp for 3 courses (several items had additional supplimentary prices attached). As the menu was limited it was difficult to decide what to have unless you enjoy ham and pea soup. Both myself and my partner order our starter and main, which had additional suppliments attached. When my starter came out, the very delicate slices of toasted bread were like rock however i said nothing and waited for our mains. The rest of the meal was amazing, the steaks were cooked to perfection, the twice cooked chips melted in your mouth and the sauce was a perfect compliment. After that i was full but my partner wanted dessert, again this was delicious. Then came the bill. £114!!!! Remember this was advertised at £29.99pp so we questioned the total. To our surprise we were told that because one of us did not have a dessert, their meal was priced seperately. Now in my mind, the easy way around that is to order a dessert and tell the kitchen not to make it but no. Instead they faffed around with explaining why it was high and as a good will gesture took off the complimentary drinks. Correct me if i am wrong but last i checked, complimentary meant you did not pay. After lots of discussion, it was explained that to get the meal at £29.99 pp you needed to have all 3 courses. This seems unfair as 1) the choices were limited and 2) after eating 2 courses we were full. The cost of the bill was not the issue, the problem began when they charged us more for eating less. Needless to say we will not eat there again on a special occassion day because for that money i can and have taken my whole family out for less. Very dissappointed. To leave on a good note, the waitress was very lovely (did not catch her name as she neither introduced herself or wore a name badge).

Poor service. Stood at the bar for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged to then be told that despite us booking our table wasn't ready yet. Dissapointing as our table was for 9pm which was quite late for dinner anyway - it was the last table available upon booking so we booked anyway because we specifically wanted to dine at The Fox. I won't be going back.

Nice rustic atmosphere and good service.

Very disappointed in our meals last night. Three of us had cod and chips, the chips where very very hard and uncooked. My colleagues had the salmon dish and although checked that it wasn't spicy it wasn't to a standard that they liked.
