What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £6.95 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
With a large al fresco dining area and a spacious car park, The Fox – Harpenden is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British dishes. Inside, leather armchairs, ethnic ornaments and walls painted in rich purples & oranges make this a cosy space to enjoy a traditional Sunday roast or a pint of refreshing beer.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Fox menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Fox bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.
The Fox – Harpenden is a 7-minute drive from Harpenden Rail Station.

Whereas the service was exceptional, the main meal was poor. I am sorry to say that my wife's fish was dry and over-cooked and the chips were very oily. As a result, she did not eat much of the food. She is too polite to complain. My friends wife did not eat her Calamari starter as she said it was chewy and tasteless. She is also too polite to complain. We have eaten at the Fox on numerous occasions over the past 10 years, but it will now slip down our list of preferred restaurants after this eating experience.

We took advantage of the early evening cocktails deal . Very good . Could it be extended to more drinks ? We enjoyed the food . Restaurant is very nicely done our . The prawn linguini was excellent, as was the sea bass.

The food was good but they were clearly under staffed! The lady that served us was great & gave excellent service it was just a shame that they only had 3 people serving at a very busy time.

The restaurant was very cold and spoilt the ambience for my friend and I. Ordered soup of the day for our starters from the fixed two course menu which we had to send back to be heated up as was lukewarm, was piping hot when returned and was very nice. I had the lobster and crab fish cakes for my main which were crispy and delicious, piping hot and nicely presented. My friend was disapointed with her choice which was a vegetarian tart which was smothered in too much overpowering cheese sauce topping containing Stilton, would be better served on the side. The restaurant and bar area is very trendy and comfortable since recently refurbished. The car park had plenty of parking and has also just been resurfaced. Service was friendly and good although it wasn’t very busy at the time. I would definitely go again and recommend it to others.
