Restaurant description

The Foodworks Restaurant is the AA Rosette-awarded eatery of the 4-star Lancaster House Hotel, offering a fantastic blend of traditional and contemporary recipes. Leading on from the hotel lounge with its inviting open fires, the restaurant offers a chic dining setting that is children-friendly.

Head Chef Damien Ng showcases the very best in Lancashire produce on the Foodworks Restaurant menu, and adds inventive tweaks to traditional local recipes. The fish and chips are coated in Lancaster Brewery blonde beer batter, while a portobello mushroom stack has perfectly matured Lancashire cheese combined with broccoli pesto. There is also an extensive children's menu with numerous healthy options.

Desserts at The Foodworks Restaurant Lancaster are wonderfully decadent, and continue the local theme: ice cream comes from Wallings of Cockerham, there is homemade Lancashire ginger parkin with rich toffee sauce, and also a cheeseboard of local varieties to choose from, as well as a large wine list.

Combining style with reassuring tradition, The Foodworks Restaurant is adjacent to Lancaster University, and a 19-minute drive from Lancaster Rail Station.

I’ve been to the Lancaster House Hotel a number of times over the years and its always been excellent. However Monday exceeded all expectations, especially as it was so busy. The staff were very attentive and the service excellent. I really enjoyed my halloumi burger was delicious, not too over cooked as some places I’ve been too often do.

Polite staff who will always help, a couple of menu issues but the management accepted the errors and didn't try to hide and with every problem they tried to put it right. A few too many dishes going back to the kitchen though so don't know if it was the challenge of fewer staff because of furlough and bigger demand but our food was really good.

The food overall was good. Dined there two nights. One issue with fajitas, they were more like wraps. Not very nice, didn’t eat them. Also had breakfast 3 mornings, on the 3rd morning waited half an hour, for our order to be taken. Toast burnt, didn’t bring our complete order, Asked for refund, which we received.

When we arrived our booking had not been processed so we were asked to sit in reception. The restaurant manager then came to us and advised that we could not be seated in the restaurant, could we sit in the bar. This we did. We were given menus, given a cost of £60 per head and left to browse. When we placed the order we expected champagne and canapes, only the champagne arrived. The starter was tasty but small. The sorbet was lovely. The main course of Beef arrived and we had to go to the bar to request suitable knives; no horseradish was offered. We had to request our dessert and tea/coffee. We had to wait an excessive amount of time between some of the courses and we felt forgotten at times. We missed out on the xmas atmosphere in the restaurant and were privy to some petty disagreements in the bar between other patrons. When we went to pay the price suddenly went up to £70 per head; no breakdown was available on the printed bill we asked for. I could not recommend the restaurant as I was not seated in there - service may be better where you can be seen ….
