The Foodworks Restaurant is the AA Rosette-awarded eatery of the 4-star Lancaster House Hotel, offering a fantastic blend of traditional and contemporary recipes. Leading on from the hotel lounge with its inviting open fires, the restaurant offers a chic dining setting that is children-friendly.

Head Chef Damien Ng showcases the very best in Lancashire produce on the Foodworks Restaurant menu, and adds inventive tweaks to traditional local recipes. The fish and chips are coated in Lancaster Brewery blonde beer batter, while a portobello mushroom stack has perfectly matured Lancashire cheese combined with broccoli pesto. There is also an extensive children's menu with numerous healthy options.

Desserts at The Foodworks Restaurant Lancaster are wonderfully decadent, and continue the local theme: ice cream comes from Wallings of Cockerham, there is homemade Lancashire ginger parkin with rich toffee sauce, and also a cheeseboard of local varieties to choose from, as well as a large wine list.

Combining style with reassuring tradition, The Foodworks Restaurant is adjacent to Lancaster University, and a 19-minute drive from Lancaster Rail Station.

Poor service from bar and food. Waited 20 mins for just basket of bread starter. Main meal a little disappointing, Luke warm, a little tasteless. Very expensive for mediocre food. Not particularly busy, just badly organised. Bar person did not know anything about lagers sold.

First class Sunday lunch. The food was beautiful, never had a Sunday lunch as good anywhere else and he service was spot on too. Would travel all the way from Glasgow every Sunday just to eat it again!!

Best features were the welcome, care and attention received by the staff and then of course the outstanding food! It was our 10th wedding anniversary and whilst nothing could really spoil such an occasion, the way we were treated was exceptional and amplified our evening! The young man who waited on us was absolutely amazing, such a skill to have to be so attentive but not instructive and professional whilst being friendly!

Food wasn't as great, too dry too hard which I presume the food has already prepare and kept down the hot light for awhile

Food really let the weekend down, my started was burnt (black pudding) and my main had far to much salt (hot pot). Breakfast was sufficient

Very disappointing. Starters were nice but arrived almost 55 minutes after arriving. Service throughout was painfully slow and we had to request service each time, yet there appeared to be plenty of staff in what was not a terribly busy restaurant. Two of my party had duck and pork and to be fair, were very happy with the meal. However the burger was nasty and certainly did not deserve the hefty price tag and the chips requested were chunky, yet what we got were thin and very chewy chips. The sea bass was nice but in a portion size that would be called a taster or starter anywhere else. fine if informed, so you can add to the dish but as service was so slow there was no chance to make up this very meagre main meal. Desserts took almost 40 minutes yet were creme brûlée which were fridge cold and had seen the sugar coated some time earlier. Overall a very disappointing meal considering the location and the price.

Very poor and slow service. Took over an hour to serve starter. Gave up asking for vinegar for
    My fish and chips

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, we were pushed for time & the waitress kindly offered to tell the chef so we could get through our meal relatively quickly, which we did, we were in at 6.30pm & out for 7.30pm. the food was delicious, my only complaint was that the parsnips were not cooked through completely, and were just too hard. We had a 20% discount coupon so it was no problem. I found the dessert menu a little disappointing, I usually order a dessert but nothing took my fancy. the surroundings are nice , the carpet was stained & is probably due to be replaced, but the ambience was good & we were not the only diners. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Staff were polite but in need of some training and reinforcements - it was a busy evening but we felt a bit neglected. Food was ok but not exceptional. My chestnut salad had more beetroot than nut.
