My family and I had a lovely meal, the staff were lovely and friendly. The portion size was very generous so much so we couldn't finish it all,and it was very reasonably priced for the class of hotel.

The Foodworks Restaurant is the AA Rosette-awarded eatery of the 4-star Lancaster House Hotel, offering a fantastic blend of traditional and contemporary recipes. Leading on from the hotel lounge with its inviting open fires, the restaurant offers a chic dining setting that is children-friendly.

Head Chef Damien Ng showcases the very best in Lancashire produce on the Foodworks Restaurant menu, and adds inventive tweaks to traditional local recipes. The fish and chips are coated in Lancaster Brewery blonde beer batter, while a portobello mushroom stack has perfectly matured Lancashire cheese combined with broccoli pesto. There is also an extensive children's menu with numerous healthy options.

Desserts at The Foodworks Restaurant Lancaster are wonderfully decadent, and continue the local theme: ice cream comes from Wallings of Cockerham, there is homemade Lancashire ginger parkin with rich toffee sauce, and also a cheeseboard of local varieties to choose from, as well as a large wine list.

Combining style with reassuring tradition, The Foodworks Restaurant is adjacent to Lancaster University, and a 19-minute drive from Lancaster Rail Station.

There were a few issues in the beginning however the restaurant staff made a lot of effort to undo these problems. In the end we were happy with the service and food. The wine was kept in a warm place, we had to cool it down in ice bucket before we could drink it.

The breakfast on the contrary was without any particular issues, we were very happy with it.

It was reasonable but lacking in atmosphere as only four in! The waitress did say we ate the starters very quickly which made us uncomfortable slightly! The creme brulee was just a mousse but waiter said that's how they do them there - not pleasant.

Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. Balloons and a card on the table for her (much to her embarrassment!) We had the Beef platter - beef was beautifully cooked and there were so many veggies which were all delicious. We had had starters (tomato soup, leek and parsnip soup and a crayfish salad - again all delicious) so were too full for dessert!

We have been twice now for Sunday lunch and the food was excellent as was the service.

    Completely excellent.
Our whole dining experience was relaxed, and without any of the unnecessary stuffiness of many restaurants these days.
Good, well cooked food, prepared by a good kitchen.

No-one at the Restaurant Reception desk to greet us. We waited some time and then abandonned our effort to go to the Bar. Adam in the Bar was very apologetic and from that point took good care of us: bar drinks, menus, order. He also served us our choice of wine at the table.
Jack, who carved our beff for us, was equally attentive and pleasant and helpful.
Overall, the high level of experience which we have come to expect.

Poor service from bar and food. Waited 20 mins for just basket of bread starter. Main meal a little disappointing, Luke warm, a little tasteless. Very expensive for mediocre food. Not particularly busy, just badly organised. Bar person did not know anything about lagers sold.

First class Sunday lunch. The food was beautiful, never had a Sunday lunch as good anywhere else and he service was spot on too. Would travel all the way from Glasgow every Sunday just to eat it again!!
