What better way to enjoy a Sunday than in a cosy country pub with a great selection of British roasts starting from £13.95 – served all day and evening on Sundays using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
Sitting on the banks of the Thames in the scenic village of Cookham, The Ferry is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British fare with a hint of Mediterranean influence. With a large outdoor dining area, a bar, and a warm, colourful restaurant with open log fires, it is a fine retreat with wholesome food and a selection of wines, ales & lagers.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Ferry restaurant menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest seasonal ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include Mediterranean mezze, seared chicken breast with sweet potato rosti & buttered British beans, and spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Ferry bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

I love the venue and return as often as I can but service getting worse and it’s pointless booking online if when you get there they dont check bookings. The food was great!!! The choice is amazing especially nice going somewhere there is good selection of deserts. Sadly waited ages to be served, had to chase the bill. Drinks came with food and so we were parched

Very friendly staff, request to sit by a window was acknowledged. We enjoyed our choice of food, pre dinner drinks on outside area really pleasant. My request for a lit candle with our sweet as it was my partners birthday made it special. A return visit ? Yes.

warm and friendly atmosphere without being "cozy" due to the size and lay -out of the restaurant.

It was a total disaster! The Ferry is no longer what it used to be.... one there are not enough staff. You used to have Australians New Zealanders Polish all fast enthusiastic and bright....where have they all gone. At Sunday lunch there were only 2 main staff and a young chap helping.....had to wait ages to be served...my friend and i had the Roast Pork which was fine. However when i asked for some Horseradish Sc the young man just out the jar dow in front of me.....not even a tea spoon to serve myself with. The staff were polite but very slow. We had to ask for the dessert menuvit was not offered. The ferry used to be great. Its lost its way...so sad. i went back in the evenung as i was meeting other friends.....it was even worse than the lunch session! Slow service......but there was THE most ghastly Indian woman with her family. Her 2young sons were the kids from hell! Running about yelling just auful. Your staff did nothing to stop this apalling situation! When we complained he replied thst it was a family restaurant.well if that is the case you should supply a paper mat and colouring pencils for the kuds to do. we waited more than 25 mins for 2irish coffee and a cappucino and the waiter felt so bad he removed it from the bill. you need to send in the undercover boss oncognito to see how bad it is!

The service was fine but the meal wasn't. My crab & lobster fishcakes were only just warm. I couldn't eat one as it got cold. The asparagus and pea felute were stone cold. The pea felute had congealed. My husband said his dinner was only just warm. The plates being hot would have helped. The menu sounded good. We were very disappointed and went home straight after the dinner.

We had a very poor experience at The Ferry. We have been going there for years as we are based 5 mins away and really like the location and setting. Unfortunately the service was terrible and the food was not great at all. We had to ask 3 x times for our table to be cleared from the last seating when we first sat down, I had to hunt for the menus between each course and we had to again ask for the table to be cleared throughout dinner. We were not approached once by the staff to ask if we need anything and when we did finally flag them down to ask for sauces and salt/pepper, they brought us empty bottles and were dismissive when we asked for them to bring full bottles. By the time they arrived the food was cold. I appreciate it was busy but the basic level of service was not good enough and for the price we paid, it was a huge disappointment.

The booking system was v good the meal was O K You allow your waiting staff to dress and express themselves as they wish we could not believe the way they present themselves We actually thought the head waiter or the manager was an undesirable from the street We have used the ferry many times but are now thinking perhaps we may not come again Why have you chosen to downgrade yourselves your waiting staff should have some sought of uniform White shirts and black You are aiming now at a different type of client not the ferry i new very sad The music in the restaurant upstairs was too loud background fine
