A picturesque wine bar and restaurant in the historic market town of West Malling, The Fancy Goat offers sophisticated fine-dining alongside a range of carefully-selected wines. Set over multiple stories, there’s a wine bar, fine dining restaurant and an intimate private loft bar.

Dishes on The Fancy Goat menu are impeccably presented, ranging from pan-fried baby squid, with fennel, orange and chilli salad, to locally-sourced calves liver with colcannon mash, green beans and caramelised banana shallots. 28 day-aged fillet of beef is served with shallot tart tatin, fries and red wine jus, while lunch offers a creative range of light bites and freshly-made pastas.

Freshly-muddled cocktails and sophisticated French and New World wines are served over the glittering brass counter of the wine bar at The Fancy Goat in West Malling. The styling throughout is warm and contemporary, with rustic exposed brickwork.

The Fancy Goat enjoys an extended license to serve alcohol until late. It is on the West Malling high street, a 2-minute drive from West Malling Station.

We went to the Fancy Goat for my husbands birthday and found the service to be welcoming warm and unobtrusively helpful. The restaurant was warm and pleasant and the food was excellent My husband chose venison and I had the sea bass with a variety of delicious vegetables and a sort of mushroom pate All very nice We followed this with delicious sweets Panna cotta with various accompaniments and a lemon meringue pie with raspberry ice cream and sauce It was presented in a very enticing artistic manner and we were very happy with it The cost of the meal was not cheap but we felt it was worth it Theonly sad bit was that there were only 4 diners that evening and we wanted tell other people to come and give them a try too.West Malling is a beautiful country town especially at night.

Staff welcoming and friendly. Food choices very good - we chose 2 courses from their weeks special menu and were impressed by the quality and presentation, the portions were adequate. Atmosphere was ok but we were the only diners and bar deliveries were wheeled through the eating area! Not disabled friendly as bar area was down 2 steps and no hand rail, with a further flight with hand rail one side, down to the basement for toilets.

Excellent food beautifully presented. Loved the decor and lively atmosphere. I had the Seabass: the fish was perfectly cooked with added flavours from the capers etc. My husband thought the steak was tender, tasted gorgeous, black pudding was good... Puddings: we had passion fruit and vanilla cheesecake and the raspberry and lemongrass brulee and both were exceptional.

We booked our meal at the last minute owing to train problems getting into London where we had booked to eat at one of our favourite restaurants.
The Fancy Goat didn't let us down. The service was superb - prompt and professional whilst personable - something we've often felt missing from some of the best restaurants. The food and wine too was fantastic. We had Smoked Salmon for starters, my fiancée had Beef Wellington for her main whilst I had lamb. Both were prepared to perfection for our tastes and of a reasonable size. Dessert was the best part of the meal for me. My partner had a chocolate dish with strawberry sorbet whilst my Banoffi Pie was presented in a way I've not seen before with the banana lightly glazed on the side of the pie which was reminiscent of toffee apples when I was a child.
Who would have thought that rail problems would mean we would find a jewel on our doorstep!
Highly recommend you try The Fancy Goat.

Lovely trendy venue with great food. The mushroom ravioli was delicious. Staff are professional and attentive and the ambience is good. Will definitely be back.

Busy restaurant upstairs. Bar downstairs. When visited before we ate downstairs. We were the only diners. This time the restaurant was full and while the food was very good of a limited menu of about 8 choices for each course the restaurant was too bust to cope. we were early diners. bY the time we had finished main they must have been overrun because we were never offered a menu for dessert or coffee. In the end we just decided to get the bill. The manager apologised but it was a disappointing ending to an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. rEcommendation. Got in the week..!!!
There was also an error in my order of steak but this was corrected price wise in my favour. We wondered if this put the waitress off us so led to a degree of discomfort when we were not served later in the meal..front of house should have just warnedus that kitchen was overloaded while we were still seated rather than apologising when we said we were being ignored and had paid . So great food, good 2 courses and drinks but a disappointing end to the evening which led to a slight awkwardness that could very easily have been managed better. hence the ratings below . oH and they had inexperienced youngsters pouring the wine with some slight spillage but they were trying hard so can accept that it's difficult and space was tight round the tables so not easy.
