Brought to you by Alan Yau, whose other restaurants include Yauatcha and Hakkasan, The Duck and Rice mixes classic British pub style and authentic Chinese recipes. This trendy hideaway features a striking, geometric-stained glass frontage, and a unique digital jukebox that allows diners to pick their own playlist.
Bursting with Chinese favourites, The Duck and Rice menu spans from sharing-style dim sum plates, to time-honoured rice and noodle dishes. Specials change monthly, while championed signature dishes include jasmine-smoked pork ribs, curried crab, and Cantonese lobster. Desserts at Duck and Rice in Soho include peanut butter ice cream, or decadent chocolate pudding.
An impressive bar stock pays tribute to the West End’s neighbouring pubs, with cask ales, local beers, and Pilsner served from a shimmering copper tank on offer. Along with a selective world wine list, artisan gin & tonics and unique ‘beer cocktail’ concoctions are mixed at the bar.
A trendy Chinese restaurant-cum-pub from one of London’s most famous restaurateurs, find The Duck and Rice 7 minutes’ walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube Station.

The overall experience was good and food was great however we chose this restuarnt due to the mock meat options. I am vegetarian and travelled from Windsor to eat here but when we turned up they said they had run out of the mock chicken and mock sweet and sour mock meat so I was surprised. Also i requested an eggless dessert in advance of my booking and this request was ignored. So if you are a vegan or vegetarian please beware of this. I would visit the restaurant again as the food was fab but would call them in advance.

Another great visit to D&R (my third), for a company lunch. Sichaun Chicken is one of my favourite dishes and recommended. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and the setting. pPre lunch cocktails in the bar were also good. Only 1 small gripe... we'd booked a late lunch for 2.30pm and on being shown to our table on time, we were told the kitchen closes in 15 mins so ordering the food felt very rushed - either don't take lunch bookings so close to the kitchen closing, or make it clear on website that you only have 15 mins to order

It was very disappointing - the service was lacklustre for the most part (and in the case of one of the waitresses almost rude and definitely charmless) no-one checked that we had all we needed any stage. The food arrived chaotically with crispy duck at the same time as our main courses - so we were trying to juggle bowls and plates (we actually had to ask for bowls for our main courses) around. I am sure it is very convenient for the kitchen but it is sub-optimal as a guest and it meant some of the food ended up cold before we could eat it. During our visit two other tables asked for their service charges to be removed and people seem visibly annoyed. Not that the staff seemed to notice - there were plenty of them standing round the bar area chatting, leaning on the spare chair at our table. The food was acceptable enough although the fried rice was greasy and the sweet and sour pork was a miserly amount with one piece of pineapple and a shovel load of onion. It was a treat for my daughter so we made the most of it but when an 11 year old. We will not be returning.

Duck and Rice is by far the best Chinese restaurant in London......and having visited most that's saying something. Highly recommend the wasabi prawns, the prawn toast and the roast duck though tbh I've never had a bad dish in this restaurant. The setting is also lovely. Its not the cheapest option, but its also not as expensive as some of the bigger names and I think the food is considerably better.
Couple of issues - be warned the wine list is expensive. There should definitely be a greater range of more reasonably priced wine available as it can feel prohibitively priced, especially if just grabbing a mid-week meal.
One thing I noticed the most recent visit was the staff - they are all dressed like D&R has just dragged them off the street, and behaviour sometimes backs this assumption. The service isn't bad, but it also wasn't great - at one point the next course was brought, without the table being cleared and the waitress just started to shove things aside to place it down. When I asked her to clear the used plates first, she looked at me like I was requesting her to do nuclear fission. Given we were on a small table for two, it just seemed common sense to me! It didn't dampen the experience, but it certainly jars with what is generally a fantastic restaurant, and tbh seems an easy fix you would hope.

The food was amazing and we were really happy with the choice of vegetarian dishes and the fact that everything had a unique flavour rather than the same sauce being used for all dishes. The black pepper mock chicken was our favourite dish! Even though it was busy the service was fairly quick and we didn’t have to wait long to receive drinks & food. The decor is gorgeous and a really nice atmosphere with lovely helpful staff.

We had an excellent meal in the restaurant and enjoyed crispy duck, mock chicken, chilli prawns, etc. but unfortunately the House Duck was disappointing. We were advised that it comes at room temperature, but ours was definitely below that, which definitely spoilt the experience. We have had it previiously when it was served at room temperature and that time it was fine. We complained to the waitress who spoke to the manager and the item was taken off the bill, which we thought was the right thing to do. We shall however definitely return as the whole experience of the restaurant , including food and staff, is excellent.

Great atmosphere ...busy and buzzing.
Food although some of it nearly the same was not the same standard as Yauatcha, its next door neighbour. Puddings were very disappointing.

Have been here a few times now for family occasions, the most recent being our farewell lunch for son living in Sydney (where they're pretty well off for great restaurants and cafes!)............he was mighty impressed........we love the decor and the ambience, the comfortable seating (especially our favourite corner seat), the music and the always friendly and efficient waiting staff.
Have never had a dish we didn't enjoy, but the crispy duck to start is now a family tradition, the pork ribs about to become one, and all the chicken dishes are to die for. As the more veggie inclined member of the family I can also praise the Chinese style broccoli and the pak choi.
