Restaurant description

In the picturesque Cockington Village, the beautiful gardens and rustic thatched roof of The Drum Inn boast a spectacular sight. Offering traditional British pub cuisine, with the al fresco garden and a cosy log-fire, the views over the surrounding country are also excellent.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Drum Inn menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Drum Inn ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

While in the beautiful Cockington Village, The Drum Inn remains only a 20-minute walk from Torquay Train Station, and a 6-minute drive from central Torquay.

Our experience was generally very positive. I had a delicious Caesar salad with a lovely garlic flatbread. My mother had the fish and chips and they were far superior to those in a lot of other pubs. My friend's chicken pie was a triumph of pastry over poultry. It came with a giant dome of pastry, which when breached, revealed a cavernous, empty interior into which she peered longingly, looking for the few elusive chicken pieces nestling in the bottom of the dish. She did say, however that what there was she enjoyed. My companions had the puddings of their choice, namely the sticky toffee pudding and some vanilla ice cream, both thoroughly enjoyed. When I tried to order the Creme Brulee however, I was told that it had been removed from the menu due to an accident with a blow torch. I presumed it was the unfortunate chef who came a cropper. I suggested that they might replace said pudding with Pannacotta to which the cheery waitress said she believed they had some which is usually part of the tasting menu. It arrived and was heavenly. The staff appear to be a young team who work exceedingly hard but are always helpful and cheerful. I will definitely be back soon.

Was looking forward to a good evening out with good food and service. Food was quite nice apart from plates were cold and a steak was also cool having to wait for veg as ordered to accompany. Service was poor no visit to either check or collect plates. After ordering dessert we gave up after waiting 20 mins. Restaurant was not busy.

A large venue in a pretty location. A large menu selection but average food. Dog friendly ! More attention needed on service and cleanliness of tables

The staff are very friendly. We were remembered from Christmas Day where we spent an enjoyable special lunch. The service is friendly however I do feel there is room for improvement. For example: our recent visit we had no parsnips as detailed on the menu (other diners had parsnips) and the child portion of Salmon was sat under the heat lamp (or similar) for a while as had gone rubbery around the edges. We also asked for the childs main to come with our main but it was served with the starters and we waited a while for our dessert having received our main immediately after our starter. Whilst these were our small issues the Drum Inn do know how to "make this right". However whilst an incentive off the bill is always a winner - personally I would like their food/service to be as good as it could be in all areas from the kitchen to the waiting staff. I do not go out for reductions on bills I go for a lovely relaxing meal. Having said all of this the food is tasty, the location is fabulous, the atmosphere is cosy and comforting and I would visit the Drum Inn again.

Delicious food, served hot, waitress very helpful. Pleasant surroundings, busy with plenty of families, some with children and/or dogs (all well-behaved - such a nice change!)
