Arriving at the drawing rooms your breath is instantly taken away by the amazing decor of the &hotel and drawing rooms. The staff are so welcoming and ensure that we are directed to the correct place to our afternoon tea which we had booked for my sister’s 21st birthday as she loves science and studies biology at uni. From the moment our lovely waitress sat us down she ensured that we were comfortable and knew what was about to happen as it was your standard normal afternoon tea we were about to be mesmerised... We had the amazing lemonade which my sister enjoyed concocting and then when our afternoon tea came we couldn’t believe our eyesnwe had the amazing lemonade which my sister enjoyed concocting and then when our afternoon tea came we couldn’t believe our eyes. How fabulous the dry ice was in such a special touch to the meal. The waitress explained thoroughly and clearly as to what every product was so we knew what we were getting our teeth into... I took the first bite of the most amazing sandwich and fell in love with the whole experience even more. We had the vegetarian vegan options which were perfect and couldn’t have been done better. We will definitely be returning and I will definitely be recommending this to all of my friends and family it’s the most perfect afternoon tea we have ever had with such a special touch thank you so much to all of you the staff were fabulous and wouldn’t be the same without them nothing was too much bother they got us a birthday cake for my sister’s 21st and really made it so so special thank you again We will definitely be returning and I will definitely be recommending this to all of my friends and family it’s the most perfect afternoon tea we have ever had with such a special touch thank you so much to all of you the staff were fabulous and wouldn’t be the same without them nothing was too much bother they got us a birthday cake for my sister’s 21st and really made it so so special thank you again!

We enjoyed the ambiance, the setup of the restaurant, the staff and the high tea - the theater of it. We had little children and a traditional high tea would have bored them. The restaurant was cosy and quite, we loved it.

On entering the room, the atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff were immediately very attentive. The science themed tea menu was explained wonderfully and the children (aged, 4, 8 and 12) were super excited. First the spaceman hot chocolate arrived and was a huge hit - we all had a go at stirring in our own chocolate marshmallows - the little touches made a huge difference and the presentation was very intricate. It felt like you were in one of Willy Wonka's factory workshops. The children (and me) loved using the pipettes to create the lemonade concoction - they loved it so much they asked to take more home which the staff were more than happy to arrange. Next arrived a mixture of sandwiches and sweet treats which were great for all three age groups. The dry ice looked totally magical. We ate until we could eat no more. There was plenty of food so it was kindly packed up for us to take home. The adult's tea was equally delicious and intricate with a number of awesome flavour combinations. All in all, the Ampersand Science Afternoon Tea was a fantastic experience - the children loved it, the staff were very helpful and the little science touches kept the children and me interested whilst the menu still gave then the flavour of an English afternoon tea.
