A lovely Sunday lunch for all
02 October 2018
Wrapped in Celtic mythology, The Dragonfly near Newport occupies supposedly enchanted, but undoubtedly beautiful, land. It boasts traditional British pub cuisine by the homely hearth-fire, or in the pretty beer garden which faces the peaceful Tredegar House Country Park.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Dragonfly menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Dragonfly ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
Though outside the city in the rustic countryside, The Dragonfly is only an 11-minute drive from Newport (South Wales) Train Station.

No note had been made that I requested to sit near the fire. They had run out of turkey roast dinners and a few other items from the menu. My starter was freezing cold so i sent it back. By the time a new one came 35 minutes later, they were serving everyone's mains. But apart from that, the food we did have was lovely and the staff were polite. An enjoyable evening overall.

From the booking online to the eating here we both could not have asked for more, appearance of the exterior to the inside it was clean tidy and service although a little slow we were told a chef had burnt her hand and went to hospital, the restaurant was full of happy people calm and quick service from the staff and we were looked after so well. I really like it here, was my first time I will be coming back. Thank you and I hope your chef is not too hurt.

Food was nice although not a great deal of choice from the menu other than burgers etc sold out of many choices.
Service was rushed and one waitress very abrupt

We have had Sunday Roast here twice and both times the lunch has been delicious - we go during the week for ham, egg and chips and the food is always freshly cooked and delicious - the staff are all so friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Although not the waiting staffs' fault we arrived at 7:45pm to find that half a dozen items were not available on the menu. Apparently they had been too busy and sold out then after sitting down we found even more items unavailable. It was easier for the waitress to tell what was left rather than what wasn't. I feel for a Saturday evening this boils down to extremely bad planning and foresight from the management. To add to this not one member of the management team came around to apologise and there was never any hint of good will in the shape of even a free cup of coffee. Really poor from what is normally a reasonably pleasant pub/restaurant.
