I did enjoy my Beef bourguignon however, I was looking forward to having the duo of lamb but this was no longer available.

Food was standard. Took one hour for three meals on a quiet night. Staff were openly talking about how downhill it had gone.

I often visit the Dormouse with friends and family. On NewYears Day my experience did not meet your usual standard. We had to wait almost half an hour for our order to be taken and an hour for our food to be served. The restaurant was fully booked and there was a good number of people having drinks in the bar area. The menus were printed on cheap A4 paper with print that was difficult to read due to the pale grey font. The service and the food was poor. When diners left the tables remained uncleared. Non of this was to the fault of the staff who were working extremely hard and remained totally professional and polite at all times. Our waiter, Les continually apologised for what was happening. He informed us that several of the staff had not turned up for their shifts. Therefore, the restaurant had only two waiting staff and there appeared to be one person at the bar, and ? kitchen staff. My friends who accompanied me had never visited the Dormouse before and were unimpressed, and said they wouldn’t rush back to the establishment. However, they praised the staff for working so hard to try to keep everything under control. Unfortunately, we overheard some clients complaining and being rude to the staff who found themselves in this unfortunate postition. I would like to to say that Les is the best waiter that has ever worked at the Dormouse and you need to keep him at your restaurant as he could easily be snapped up by one of your competitors I feel that your staff need be recompensed greatly for keeping your business running in difficult circumstances on public Holiday. I trust that when the next Bank Holiday or Race Meeting happens you will have contingency plans in hand when some of your staff decide to take a day off and leave their colleagues in an unenviable position We arrived for 1pm and left at 4.45pm I look forward to receiving your views and opinions regarding this matter.

Had a great dining experience here, nice decor, warm & welcoming inside as cold, damp and dark outside, had 3 course meal for 4 of us. All had fish starters which we all enjoyed, all had different main courses, where we all had empty plates when we finished, and all had dessert which were exceptionally good. Overall a really fantastic meal out which came to less than £30 each including a bottle of wine for the ladies and lager for the guys so good value too.

Thanks for the opportunity to give feedback. We enjoyed sitting in the garden in beautiful sunshine. The food was good and would come again. However it was a Saturday lunch and very busy. We waited over an hour for our desserts and after enquiring we were on our feet ready to paying leave when a delightful lady came and said that she would enquire for us. Why it should take so long to produce desserts we cannot imagine except that staff were in very short supply. We hope that our next visit will see more staff on duty. We are told that catering staff generally in York are in short supply so there must be an incentive for them to work at the beautiful Dormouse, Clifton.
