Paying tribute to the vintage British pub, The Dormouse in York serves traditional pub food in what was once a Victorian hospital. The grand hearth displays the classic brickwork, while the rustic ivy-covered walls and a charming orchard are attractive views from the al fresco beer garden.
Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Dormouse menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Dormouse ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.
Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.
The Dormouse is only a 6-minute drive from York Train Station.

Staff very nice but the service is poor they are rushed off their feet I have been at lunchtime as well a couple of months ago and experience was the same. Food was not as good as it has been in the past and by the time our coffee was served it was lukewarm.

The ambience and menu choices was excellent. The quality of food was good but the parsnips were very dry. The service was slow, it appeared that on a busy day, Father's Day, there was not enough staff to provide a slick service

The food was disappointing. The children's pasta meal portion size was very small, the garlic bread was very thin and crisps (overdone) and all of the chips were overdone and too crispy (I know they were triple cooked but that's no good for a child's meal). Overall we were not very impressed.

Great starter and pudding, however very disappointing main course as the steak had more fat on than meat!

Friendly and efficient service. Pleasant atmosphere and as requested in email booking a nice quiet table.

Everything was going well until lunch arrived and the Yorkshires were black! Cauliflower cheese arrived 10 minutes into eating and therefore we were disappointed. When you spend £146 you would expect better.

Your place is very comfortable and pleasing to be in. We booked for 12pm when it was quiet. However the food was cold but it tasted good The service was ok to begin with but we had to wait a very long time for our order to be taken for dessert together with a second bottle of wine. All together we were there for three hours with two small children who fortunately behaved well This is not a complaint as we enjoyed the visit but it appeared that more staff were needed when your restaurant was full. We will book again and hope it improves.
