The restaurant is quite nice, the service is very good and the quality of the food is excellent. I was disappointed, though, in the food options. I was looking for a traditional tea with finger sandwiches, plain or fruit scones with strawberry preserves and an assortment of pastries. However, the finger sandwiches only came with the Savory Tea option, which only offered savory scones and even savory desserts like salmon eclairs.

So I had the High Tea, which offered regular scones and pastries, but no finger sandwiches. The item I ordered, a lobster omelette & bisque with truffle, was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten, but it felt more like lunch than tea.

My server was very helpful and friendly, quick to offer more tea, and even more scones. But though she said I could have two plain scones instead of one plain and one fruit, as well as just strawberry preserves instead of one strawberry and one lemon curd, that’s not what I got. It was quickly rectified, though, so I’m not complaining. I did just want to note that diners could make slight substitutions, they just might not be received flawlessly.

Also, not a reflection on the quality, but I didn’t care for most of the pastries or cake options and I’m usually fairly easy to please when it comes to sweets. So I felt like I paid a lot more than I cared to for an omelette and two scones when that wasn’t what I really wanted in the first place. Others may be perfectly satisfied with what they receive for £57, but I truly regret the fact that I assumed tea at the Ritz’s Palm Court would be even more expensive when I actually could have gotten exactly what I wanted in even more beautiful surroundings for only £49.30.

Excellent afternoon tea and friendly welcoming staff. Advised wisely to choose 1 sweet and 1 savoury afternoon tea and share between us. Top ups of tea and food were offered frequently but not intrusively.

We had an veggie afternoon tea, savoury tea and a high tea. Everything was lovely. I loved the lobster bisque which came with the hug tea. All the desserts were also great! My favourite though was the lemon curd!

The location was grand. My friend and I dressed up elegantly for the occasion. Loved to dress up for the occasion but I was most affronted by people who had not dressed up and who looked very scruffy, wearing trainers, dirty tee shirts, jeans , shorts backpacks etc. Their scruffiness had ruined my experience. I didn’t feel any different from having tea at costa or Macdonald!! 98% of the customers on my day of experience looked very elegant. Why didyou admit these people into your grand lounge?I hope you are not putting profit before the specialness of the tea lounge!
