Wonderful as always. Lovely setting, lovely staff, lovely food. Bit of a distance for us to travel - some 50 minutes away - but well worth the effort.

With a thatched roof, and rustic interiors, The Devon Doorway is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British fare. Large windows allow natural light to fill the airy, open-plan bar and restaurant, while roaring log fires and leather armchairs provide many cosy corners for intimate gatherings. In warmer weather, enjoy a glass of fine wine in the adjoining garden.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Devon Doorway menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Devon Doorway bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The Devon Doorway in Merseyside is a 12-minute walk from Heswall Rail Station.

Very nice ambience. Had the steak sandwich and sticky chicken platter. Both were excellent.

were expeditiously received and seated at our table. Staff service was excellent and speedy in spite of the venue being almost full. Menu choice too suited everyone though one choice had been so popular that it was sold out.

My daughter bought my wife a voucher for her 69th birthday and we said we would use it for the Devon Doorway. The starter was good Canambar box with rustic bread for main my wife chose Linguine and I went for for 18 hour salt beef. Mine was dreadful the potatoes had not been cooked properly and the salt beef was too dry.My wife had ordered crab and salmon linguine which was all almost pasta. I complained about my meal and the staff were very good saying I could change mine so I went for Fish Chips and mint peas. The peas were over micro waved had changed colour round the edges, the chips were long cooked and greasy but the fish was good.
We both left most of our meals and decieded to leave. The assistant manager did give us a 25% discount for bad cooking, but the whole experience cost me over £40 for basically drinks and starter. I was so upset my wifes birthday treat was ruined by a rotten meal. We will never eat there again.
