Wonderful as always. Lovely setting, lovely staff, lovely food. Bit of a distance for us to travel - some 50 minutes away - but well worth the effort.

With a thatched roof, and rustic interiors, The Devon Doorway is a refurbished country-style pub serving modern British fare. Large windows allow natural light to fill the airy, open-plan bar and restaurant, while roaring log fires and leather armchairs provide many cosy corners for intimate gatherings. In warmer weather, enjoy a glass of fine wine in the adjoining garden.
With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, The Devon Doorway menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest available ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include king prawn, crab and chorizo linguine, or spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.
The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The Devon Doorway bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

My husband and myself ate here last year whilst visiting the Wirral for the Wirral Classic golf tournament. On our return this year, we looked forward to our visit again, but unfortunately our meal was very disappointing. I ordered the cod and chips, and when it arrived it was a very small portion. The fish was a quarter of the size I had previously, and was mostly batter. My husband had the Wagyu burger, which was tasty but not amazing for the price. It was fairly busy and we did have quite a long wait for our food and it was not the same standard as last year. We didn't get asked if our meal was ok, and we couldn't attract anyone's attention to ask why the fish was so small, so we paid the bill and left. Such a shame.

It was my first visit and I was very impressed with the food, the service and the staff, we did not feel rushed to finish our meal and I felt the staff genuinely wanted to make sure we were happy with our meal.
I had the Brie as a starter and it was delicious, the baked ham was tasty and I tried the mini pudding. What a brilliant idea, I don't normally have a dessert as it is too much but I really enjoyed it.
We will definitely go back,

The food was second to none we all commented on how hot it was
Only spoilt by the waitress calling us "Guys" all night
the music was far to loud
we did ask for it to be turned down but it was still ihard to hear what was being said from across the table.
Also the lighting was very dim, it's lovely to have subdued lighting but this was bordering on dark.
All in all we loved the food the service was quick and friendly.

Food was lovely, attentive but not intrusive service. Its been a while since we visited, but we'd definitely come back.
Car park is a bit of a squeeze.
