Tucked away within the West Sussex countryside, The Curious Pig in the Parlour offers homecooked British food and wood-fired pizzas in a sweetly eccentric setting. In warm weather, the sprawling, leafy beer garden is the perfect place to laze around and soak up the sun while you enjoy a meal and a pint al fresco.

The deliciously hearty menu includes a selection of different cuts of steak cooked to your liking in a charcoal oven, served with a choice of sides, homemade steak burger with mixed leaves, red onion, fresh tomato, gherkin & a special burger sauce, served with thick cut chips, and a list of mouth-watering pizzas, including The Curious Pig Special, topped with roasted bacon, pulled pork shoulder, pork meatballs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, red onion, sweet caramelised apple, sage & rocket pesto, fresh watercress & homemade parsnip crisps.

Sharing platters crammed with sticky pork ribs, honey mustard sausages, scotch egg and roast ham are also available, alongside a stellar selection of drinks. With rustic furniture, mismatched chairs & a collection of quirky wall décor, The Curious Pig in the Parlour boasts a cosy shabby-chic interior.

Our waitress was lovely but the manager in his ripped shirt was rude and of no help when we asked where our pizzas were after waiting an hour. We eventually got our order and it was still wrong but we didn’t bother telling the rude manager. As I said the waitress was very apologetic and handled it superbly.

We absolutely loved this place, eaten here a few times for special occasions and it’s always worth the pricey taxi ride for us to get there. However, having gone back on Saturday after Covid restrictions in place we were super disappointed to say the least. We arrived at 4.30pm and were advised of the 2 hour time limit, which we completely understand as it is certainly unprecedented times. Ordered our pizzas and bottle of wine and our waitress was lovely and polite. After we finished eating however this is where it started to go wrong. We were advised again of our time limit at 6pm and we explained we just wanted to finish our wine and then have a cognac whilst we waited for our taxi and that if possible we wanted to have our cognac at a table out front. The waitress advised us to settle food bill and place order for cognac with another waitress who would be servicing the tables outside, again we were warned of a 2 hour building limit. Yes we know, it’s 6.05pm we haven’t exceeded any limit. By now we are generally just feeling a tad rushed and unwelcome. We haven’t gone over our time yet the ambience has been ruined by the constant badgering. We went to sit outside as previously discussed with our server and were then told that we had a limit again. I said we hadn’t exceeded the limit and just wanted an after dinner cognac. The waitress was rude and was frantically trying to search our arrival time. Then she abruptly said ‘what do you want?’ completely angry that we wanted to use our leftover 20 minutes. We didn’t bother staying. We have so many options by way of country pub where we live but for a special evening we do always try and come here so it’s sad that it has been ruined by this unpleasant experience. We had to stand in the carpark waiting for our taxi when there was not a soul on any of the tables outside and we hadn’t overstayed the limit, if moving tables was the problem then we would have happily remained at our dinner table.

I visited during the pandemic and felt totally safe. Food is always excellent quality and I find the portions large and it's always worth trying to leave room for dessert. I've never had a bad meal here. The outside space is lovely and there is loads of parking. I wish it was closer to where I live!!

My disabled wife and I lunched with old friends on Friday 11th, September. It was a very pleasurable experience in these restricted days. Despite widely spaced tables and safe distances the restaurant has lost none of its conviviality and members of staff were courteous and attentive. The food was of a high standard, well cooked and hot and the variety of dishes good, Service was patient and friendly. I do not hesitate to recommend ‘The Curious Pig’ to all lovers of good food and atmosphere

It’s a lovely pub with a great garden, very welcoming and helpful staff. The service was great and the food was really good. The only thing I would say is it was a shame you don’t do the lunch menu at a weekend.
